If there is any other character on The Walking Dead who could compete with Daryl in terms of elusiveness, it’s Mercer. He’s constantly sporting a scowl, barely speaks, and when he does it’s in short answers with an authoritative tone.

Sometimes he’s downright scary and other times he lets the walls crumble a bit and provides helpful advice with a smile. But who is this man in orange armor that everyone seems to love, respect and fear?

Mercer is based on a character with the same name from The Walking Dead comics. Before the world fell he was a Marine, as he so points out to Ezekiel who mistakes him as being a cop with an attitude.

Aside from that Mercer, while loyal to his position, seems to have quite the distaste for Governor Pamela Milton and her son Sebastian Milton. In The Walking Dead series, from what we’ve seen he did not rush to save Sebastian when he and his date Kayla almost got killed by walkers.

Calm, strong, and elusive, just who is Mercer on The Walking Dead?

It was Eugene and Shira (fake Stephanie) who saved them. Most recently, Mercer refrained from chasing former soldier Tyler Davis, who threatened to kill his sister (the real Stephanie).

He openly questioned and threatened everything Pamela Milton had built at The Commonwealth during the masquerade party. Mercer’s hesitation was so evident that Sebastian screams at him to chase and catch Tyler.

Those do not look like the actions of someone who is completely devoted to those in power at The Commonwealth. In the comics, Mercer actually agrees to the idea of overthrowing Pamela and Sebastian.

The rest will not be disclosed for the sake of spoilers but it’s not surprising that Mercer may be on the side of those willing to rise against The Commonwealth. Oh, and he and The Princess (Juanita Sanchez) are a thing.

We’ve seen the two of them flirt on several occasions on the show but nothing official has been confirmed as of yet. So of course the big question is what direction will the show take?

Will Mercer become involved in a possible plot to overthrow Pamela Milton or will something else happen that we won’t see coming?
