Maggie may have just turned the tide on The Walking Dead. Audiences already could see how strained the trust is between The Commonwealth leader Governor Pamela Milton and Lance Hornsby is and the latest episode “The Lucky Ones” just added to it.

Lance Hornsby has been the man behind Alexandria’s rebuilding efforts and was hoping to convince Oceanside and The Hilltop into joining forces with The Commonwealth. However, he never expected Maggie to decline his offer.

Perhaps no one has ever declined an offer to live in something as established and appealing as The Commonwealth. Regardless, by the end of the episode, after seeing the kind of power The Commonwealth has, Maggie refuses the deal.

Was this the right decision? While some of Maggie’s most recent decisions regarding her mission to get food and supplies from Meridian could be seen as questionable, considering how many people died in the process due to The Reapers, this may have been the right one to make.

Would you have declined The Commonwealth’s offer on The Walking Dead?

While it might seem that her decision is coming from stubbornness it’s actually coming from observation. She knows that a majority of her friends (whom many are considered family at this point) are living in The Commonwealth.

They have established themselves there and are already making new friendships, such as that of Daryl and Mercer. This means Maggie’s circle of trust is slowly shrinking.

She, like Daryl, have lived and lost many homes, including her father’s farm. She’s seen what happens when there isn’t a backup plan or in this case a backup living situation.

If she would have agreed and The Hilltop would become a new project for Lance to get his claws into, there will no longer be a separation from The Commonwealth. They will have eyes and ears everywhere.

At this point, Maggie has not been convinced they are trustworthy and let’s be honest, probably none of the other survivors are 100% convinced either. Yes, they like the little luxuries they once thought were gone but they miss their freedom.

They see the tiny cracks beginning to form. For now, Maggie just needs to preserve, even if means eating less than stellar food and fighting the endless fight against walkers.

Because at the end of the day that is what The Walking Dead is about, surviving.

Next. Is this how Maggie and Negan will make amends on The Walking Dead?. dark
