Ranking Who’s Possibly the Father After How I Met Your Father season 1

In a streaming world filled with spin-offs, sequels, and reboots, it only makes sense to see a sitcom that had a unique point of view earn this bonus media. Therefore, the brains behind How I Met Your Mother helped produced a spin-off series with the minds behind Love, Simon, and Love, Victor to create the Hulu series of How I Met Your Father.

Sophie’s differing point of view from Ted has already added so much in How I Met Your Father season 1. However, the caveat of knowing the father of her son was at the engagement party from the pilot, limits down the mystery slightly.

With many options already known, let’s see how likely each person is to be the titular paternal character following How I Met Your Father season 1.

Who is Sophie most likely to end up with on How I Met Your Father?

7. Ellen

Now look, some of you might be confused by this and there is a reason she is at the bottom of the list. The main point of Ellen’s entry is for the fanfic folks and those who always think the answer to a show’s mystery is the most outlandish truth.

However, objectively the characters of Ellen and Sophie do blend well together, although the writers have yet to show us in How I Met Your Father season 1 how. While the steam between Ellen and Sophie has not shown their head yet, I would not be surprised if the writers threw their loyal fanatics a bone.

6. Mystery/Unknown Man

While The Father is likely one of the next five men, there is still a substantial chance that he will be a man the audience has not met yet. The only thing learned from Future Sophie that is definite is she met The Father of her son the night of Sid and Hannah’s engagement party.

Sophie’s introduction with Drew via a flashback proved the writers can add more paternal candidates. While an unknown being The Father would be another How I Met Your Letdown, the writers would be fools to not add some doubt with a minor recurring character who Sophie met that night to keep the mystery fresh.

5. Charlie

Right now, Charlie is at the bottom of the known men because Sophie and Valentina are too tight and emotionally connected for Sophie to date Charlie. That being said, Charlie’s boyish charm is so magnetic and appealing that it wouldn’t be too much of a shock to see New York’s up-and-coming premier photographer fall for the former British socialite.

Charlie does not want to be a father so that would be difficult to be the titular character, but technically Sophie met him on that historic night so he will always be on the hunt.

4. Drew

I have to be honest, Drew messed up with Sophie. When Drew called Sophie’s desire to be a professional photographer a “pipe dream,” he showed how pretentious and arrogant he can be when it comes down to it.

It is very much possible things could change like Sophie could prove him wrong or Drew could have a change of heart. Even if these things happen, however, it would be a regress in Sophie’s character to be with Drew.

There are also so many complexities the writers could add and only time will tell if they do.

3. Ian

If this handsome man did not show up at the end of the How I Met Your Father season 1 finale, then he might have boosted up higher in the rankings. Since the suspense of his return has now left, it will be interesting to see how Ian and Sophie work going into season 2.

The chemistry is there, the foundation of a solid relationship has been built, and both Sophie and Ian are ready to be with the other one. Therefore, by television logic, this means they will not end up together, but it is sure to be a fun ride along the way.

2. Jesse

It just can’t be Jesse. It is too obvious and too predictable.

The main reason why this heartbreaker earns the silver medal, however, is because of that very expected conclusion. After How I Met Your Mother became too convoluted with its lackluster ending and finale, the easy and simple route would be the safest option.

All of this has cast doubts on who should be number one on this list, however, because Sophie and Jesse have already been together and hooked up, he did not earn the top spot. This spot was awarded to…

1. Sid

Sid is the man who thought to himself “I should buy a bar” and did it. Sid is the man who wanted two weddings because he is that much of a romantic.

Sid is the man who tries and tries for love even when he comes up short. As seen throughout How I Met Your Father season 1, audiences saw Sid do these things and how his now-wife Hannah was either annoyed or had some reservations about those decisions.

For that reason, and because Sophie would happily eat up all of Sid’s romantic gestures, he earns the top spot heading into season 2.
