With the conclusion of the final Big Three trilogy episodes, this week’s episode of This Is Us season 6 is all about Randall and his subsection of the Pearson gang. Like Kevin and Kate’s special episode before, this one centers around the opening of the infamous town pool in their hometown.

As young Randall hangs out with his swim class, his siblings receive one on one time with their parents. We see him look longingly at his family.

Young adult Randall is trying to convince his sister to climb the fence so they can get out of the abandoned pool area. But that comes to a halt when a flashing lights approach.

The cop finds them underage drinking on top of trespassing. When the officer goes back to his car, Randall respectfully follows trying to talk his way out of him and his siblings getting in trouble.

The episode then jumps to present-day Randall at Rebecca’s Thanksgiving family meeting as he is let down and saddened by his mom’s news. After the meeting, Randall is still shaken up when Deja approaches and explains how Malik broke up with her because of what Randall told him.

She proclaims she hates Randall before storming off, adding that she is not their daughter. The next morning it turns out Deja left last night so Randall and Rebecca go out driving to look for her.

Randall makes a snide comment about Kate being the second in command. During their driving, Rebecca tries to keep her son cool during this stressful moment by explaining her first love story when she was 15.

This understandably makes Randall uncomfortable. Rebecca tries to talk about Randall’s rude comment, but he shrugs it off before they agree to make a pitstop for food.

Randall helps his mom with opening her medicine bottle as they reminisce about the summers of his childhood. He gets a call from Beth and informs them Deja is safe in Boston with Malik.

Rebecca and Randall agree to spend the day together. Child Randall is seen excelling at swimming while his siblings struggle in the pool before the audience sees young adult Randall successfully talk the Big Three out of any trouble with the police.

The three of them decide to go to Kate’s work at the diner to hang out since it has been a while. Randall finds a phone just to let their mom know all of them are safe and the two end up chatting about Rebecca losing Miguel to Houston.

This Is Us Season 6 Episode 10: Rebecca shares some advice with her son

Rebecca and adult Randall hang out at a Connecticut bar. Randall finds out that she consumes and saves any article that has to do with her children’s success.

The two then head off to a motel for the night where Jae-won calls Randall as he did when they were driving up to the cabin. Randall explains to his mom why he keeps calling.

It turns out a Pennsylvania senator is retiring, and his name is on the shortlist of potential replacements. But Randall does not know if he wants it or not for a myriad of reasons.

Kiddo Randall passes another swim test so his instructor tells him that he graduated and can now swim in the deep end. Before he jumps in, he notices his brother and sister struggling.

At the motel, the next morning, Rebecca and her son sit at the pool (which is closed for the winter) where she explains that Randall has always taken care of her and been there for her, even before Jack died. Rebecca expresses her guilt for Randall putting his early adult years on hold to look after her.

That is why he is not her executor, but Kate is. Rebecca is freeing Randall from carrying the burden of his mom so he can fulfill his fullest potential.

Randall then gets a call from Deja where the audience only hears him speaking. Randall sounds worried and comforting as he says, “I’m on my way” to the daughter that expressed hatred to him mere hours ago.

Once Randall and Rebecca arrived in Boston, Deja does not say anything as she gets in the car leaving Malik to talk to Randall. Malik explains that Randall did not influence his choice to break up with her.

Rather it’s because his current life prevented him from being a good partner for her. Randall leaves him with a firm handshake and words of advice saying if something is meant to be, it will be.

In the car, Deja explains how she enjoyed the intensity of her relationship with Malik and expresses hope that maybe her path will intersect with him again in the future. She also maturely apologizes to Randall for her hurtful words yesterday and states that he is her one and only father.

Back at the diner, Kevin asks Randall what he said to the cop to convince him to let them go. It turns out Randall explained how all three of them have been struggling since their dad died two years ago.

If they get arrested, they and Rebecca will go through too much emotional turmoil. He seals the deal by telling the cop he might be president one day which gets a smirk out of the police officer.

Randall then explains to his siblings that they (jokingly) looked weak and wouldn’t survive one night in prison. They share a laugh and have a fun time.

This Is Us Season 6 Episode 10: The Big Three move on with their lives

Rebecca and Randall successfully return Deja home safely where Beth and her daughter embrace lovingly. The next morning Rebecca and Miguel head back home but not before Randall autographs an article Rebecca has been quoting the whole time.

She believes there are big things ahead for him. Back at the pool’s grand opening, young Randall starts a domino effect of his family getting in and swimming together, proving he has been the heart of the family for years.

Something Rebecca alluded to. The episode ends with glimpses of the Big Three moving on with their lives.

Randall calls Jae-won to schedule the meeting with the outgoing senator. Then Kevin brings his sleeping twins to Madison after his trip having proved he’s growing and improving as a father.

And finally, Kate tells Toby that she can’t move her family to San Francisco for Toby and his job.
