Bridgerton Season 2 Episode 4 recap – Colin visits Marina
Sometimes it’s hard to move on from the past. After Colin Bridgerton discovers that Marina, now Lady Crane lives nearby he decides to visit her.
Much to Penelope’s dismay. Marina looks well, having given birth to twins and listens to Colin’s stories about his travels.
As he proceeds to leave, her husband, Sir Phillip Crane arrives and asks Colin to stay for dinner ignoring Marina’s protests. After dinner, Marina watches as Colin and Phillip talk about their travels before she politely urges Colin to return to his family.
Colin realizes that Marina is not happy with her husband. She confesses that her children make her happy and that Colin needs to stop thinking about the past.
She suggests he look at the present and future, mentioning Penelope specifically. Though a little hurt by her words, Colin leaves.
When he sees Penelope again, he tells her about his visit with Marina. You’d think he take her advice but instead he dwells on how Lady Whistledown basically ruined any chances he could have had with Marina.
Oh my, and here I thought Anthony was dense. As if all of this isn’t enough, Eloise is trying to avoid her mother at all costs as she endlessly tries to pair her rebellious daughter with a suitable gentleman.
Eloise does agree to a dance and he seems promising at first until they argue. Fed up Eloise tries to flee when her mother catches her.
In tears Eloise just wants to go to bed, believing herself to be an embarrassment to her mother. But the fact of the matter is, she cannot help who she is.
Eloise wants to be valued not possessed and it seems this world isn’t ready for outspoken and intelligent women.
Bridgerton Season 2 Episode 4 recap – The Featherington Scandal
It seems nearly all the affluent families are gathering at Aubrey Hall where the Bridgerton’s will be hosting and holding lavished parties. Yes, even the Featheringtons’ are present and quite perplexed about their current situation.
Portia refuses to give up her pursuits of marrying her daughter Prudence to Cousin Jack. The closer he gets to Cressida and her family the more dire the situation becomes.
While attending the party that evening she suggests that Prudence observe the orangery. Moments later she spots Cousin Jack and directs him there as well stating a gentlemen is waiting for him there.
Even I wasn’t quite sure what Portia’s plan was until she dramatically brings a large crowd to the orangery, faking terror at the sight of her daughter with Cousin Jack and no chaperone. This results in Cousin Jack having to propose to Prudence so that her reputation will not be tarnished.
But it seems, Portia just ensured her family’s ruin. Cousin Jack has no money.
His mines in America are worthless. He was pursuing Cressida for the fortune.
Prudence and Penelope are not aware of this devastating realization. Penelope simply believes this to be a silly and doom to fall plan regardless.
Bridgerton Season 2 Episode 4 recap – Are Anthony and Kate in love?
Ever since Kate and Anthony almost kissed, things have been awkward for the two. So noticeable that even Edwina asks her sister if the bee sting keeps bothering her.
Edwina, desperate to have her sister like Anthony asks her to join in their conversation. Alas, Anthony cannot stay as he plans to go hunting with the men.
Kate manages to convince them to take her with them alongside one of Lady Danbury’s maids following behind. When Kate goes missing Anthony finds her trying to hunt.
He attempts to teach her how to properly hold a gun resulting in the two getting close again when the group finds them. It’s moments like this that are driving the two mad.
So much so they nearly kiss again, after they both find each other unable to sleep in Anthony’s father’s library. Anthony does confess as to why he worried about Kate’s bee sting.
She’s sympathetic towards him but won’t confess how she feels. On the night of the party, Edwina asks Kate to dance with Anthony, again hoping that Kate can convince him to propose.
The two dance in perfect rhythm when Anthony leaves abruptly. Kate follows him and perhaps one of the best scenes of the season thus far occurs.
Anthony, out of patience, near insanity, wants to know why Kate hates him so much. She admits he vexes her.
When the two are about to kiss they are interrupted again by Daphne. Completely confused and taken aback she berates Anthony about pursuing her while he is also with Edwina.
Anthony tries to evade her accusations but even he knows they are true. It seems no one can speak sense into Anthony.
Later that same evening Lady Danbury finds Kate outside and practically begs her to tell Edwina the truth about how she feels about Anthony. Kate acknowledges Lady Danbury’s advice and attempts to tell Edwina the following morning.
But she’s too late. Anthony proposes to Edwina and she excitedly accepts.
Bridgerton Season 2 Episode 4 review
Where do I begin dear viewers? Kate and Anthony are perhaps more alike than they realize.
They are stubborn yet fearful of what could happen if they did confess to each other how they felt. While this successful Netflix show is a work of fiction, it becomes oddly relatable in terms of love.
How many times in our own lives have we felt strongly for someone just to have them reject us? How many times in our own lives have we valued love and hoped to one day find it?
For some, gaining the attention of someone we are attracted to is easy whereas for others it becomes an impossible task. While this might perhaps feel like the longest slow burn romance we’ve ever watched or read about, it is realistic to a degree.
With only a handful of episodes left this season, I expect there to be a resolve. The question is, who will confess first and how will the other react?
Again, I admire Portia Featherington’s ingenuity even if her plans often fail. I’m sure if Penelope knew of the circumstances she could pen quite a story as Lady Whistledown and save her family.
Even if at times, they might not deserve it. I myself can hardly stand Penelope’s consistent rejection by Colin Bridgerton.
It makes me wonder if he will ever wake up and notice her as more than a friend. Not to mention Eloise’s own battle between being true to herself and having to become someone society deems she has to be.
