The season finale of Moon Knight has arrived but does episode six titled “Gods and Monsters” deliver a satisfying end to season 1? Marc must find a way to return in order to stop Arthur Harrow from releasing Ammit but he’ll need Steven, Layla, and even Khonshu’s help to do it.

Will they succeed? Let’s find out!

Arthur Harrow retrieves the stone statue of Ammit and leads his followers back to the pyramid where the other Egyptian Gods and their avatars reside. On the way they are stopped by Egyptian police and with Harrow’s power all but one of the officers are killed.

This is just an example of the power Ammit has. Harrow has become too powerful for the Egyptian gods and thanks to this power he is able to resurrect Ammit herself.

The alligator headed-Egyptian Goddess is grateful to Harrow and wishes for him to continue her work. This request surprises him as he assumed she’d see his scale and justly punish him.

Although Layla is able to free Khonshu he is not strong enough without an avatar and Ammit escapes. Cairo becomes the first target as Harrow and his followers begin purging the city.

Layla stays with Marc’s body, heartbroken over his death but determined to get revenge. Using the golden scarab Harrow leaves with Marc she’s able to follow him.

She attempts to kill him when the bodies of the dead Egyptian officers begin speaking to her. It is Taweret, trying to warn Layla not to engage and that Marc is trying to return.

It’s true, Marc leaves the Field of Reeds to be with Steven in The Duat. As the two turn to stone in the sand, the gate opens and they are free. Taweret arrives and helps to bring them back to the living world.

They are willing to work with Khonshu however once Harrow is defeated the debt has been paid. Confused Layla obeys Taweret but when they reach the pyramid and free Khonshu he asks her to be his avatar.

She angrily declines and instead becomes Taweret’s temporary avatar. This is some marvelous acting by May Calamawy (Madam Secretary, Ramy)!

Now that Layla is Taweret’s avatar she has unique costume of her own and incredible powers. Not to mention the most gorgeous and deadly wings I’ve ever seen!

Layla learns that Ammit can be defeated but the Egyptian Goddess must take a human host. Together she, Marc and Steven battle Harrow and his followers.

Harrow is still incredibly strong and easily able to overpower them. As Harrow is about to take Marc’s soul, he suddenly blacks out.

When Marc awakens, he’s surrounded by dead bodies and a barely conscious Harrow. Marc and Steven collectively how no idea how this happened.

Third identity reveal?

With Harrow defeated, Marc and Layla refuse to kill him as Khonshu orders. They instead ask to be freed from him.

This might not be the best move as Harrow does contain a powerful Egyptian Goddess within him, but they make the point that Khonshu can do it himself. Khonshu agrees the debt has been paid and suddenly we’re transported back to Marc and Steven at the mental hospital.

The two are able to fluidly pass control to each other, untrusting of Dr. Harrow. Once they address the trail of bloody footprints Dr. Harrow was leaving with his shoes Marc awakes in Steven’s apartment.

Steven and Marc are both present and the episode ends with them falling out of the bed while still strapped to the post just like in the beginning of the series. But of course, the story doesn’t end there.

Oh no, Moon Knight set up quite the intriguing end credit scene. Presuming Harrow is unwell for having an Egyptian Goddess within him, he’s residing in a mental hospital.

A mysterious man takes him outside to a waiting limo where behold; Khonshu is inside. Harrow is less than happy to hear the Egyptian God speak but that is not the person he should be worried about.

No, the driver is Jake Lockley, another identity of Marc’s. Jake has no issue doing as Khonshu asks and kills Harrow.

Moon Knight Season 1 Episode 6 review

The reveal of Jake Lockley in the last moments of the season finale was perfect! Fans were anxiously awaiting when he’d make his official appearance after seeing so many clues alluding to it.

Of course, now this raises a lot more questions like, how was he able to take control, how and when was he created by Marc, what does this mean for Marc and Steven and how will this affect Layla and their relationship?

On top of that we don’t see Layla after the final battle. I’m hoping she’s still married to Marc but how will that change with Steven’s presence?

I’m sure I’m not the only one who would love to see another season of Moon Knight as it has become one of the best television shows I have ever seen! The creative design choices, connection to Ancient Egyptian history, acting, and overall story were superb and surprising!

I do not think many knew what we were getting ourselves into when Moon Knight started airing on Disney Plus. I certainly did not know what to expect as I was completely unfamiliar with Moon Knight.

I can honestly say, even though season 1 wrapped up in a satisfying way, there is more I’d love to see. There is more to explore, and I believe this series can capture lightning in a bottle twice, even three times over!
