What is the status of the Disney Plus series Tiana?
We’ve been talking a lot about the plethora of upcoming Marvel and Star Wars series’ on Disney Plus. Today, we wanted to talk about a series focused on the hard-working, kind, and steadfast Disney princess, Tiana.
Disney’s animated film The Princess and the Frog, told the story of Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), a young woman, who worked several jobs so she could save enough money to open her own restaurant in New Orleans. While her mother is proud of her diligent daughter, she believes she should make time for other things in life too.
But for Tiana, those things can wait until after her dream is achieved. At the same time, the handsome and carefree Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos) arrives from Maldonia.
His family is annoyed with his freeloading lifestyle, so he must either marry a rich young woman or find a job. Tiana and Naveen cross paths, eventually turning into frogs through a series of questionable deals and fairy-tale logic) thanks to the film’s villain, Dr. Facilier (Keith David).
What will the upcoming Disney Plus series Tiana be about?
Throughout their journey, Tiana and Naveen meet a collection of helpful and humorous characters. In the end, Dr. Facilier is defeated, the two fall in love, turn back into humans and open a restaurant together.
But the story doesn’t have to end there. In the past Disney’s direct to DVD sequels had less than desirable plots.
Some worked well, others didn’t really hold up to the original story. In the case of Tiana having her own series on Disney Plus of the same name, we believe it can work out very well in her favor.
She is warm and inviting, and while she has her own unique personality, she manages to embody everything a Disney princess is. We first heard about the Disney Plus series, Tiana, in November 2021 but haven’t heard much about it since.
So, we decided to do a little digging. According to the Disney Wiki website, “Tiana sets off for a grand new adventure as the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia, but a calling to her New Orleans past isn’t far behind.”
This already sounds like an interesting premise. We saw the lively and spirited 1920’s New Orleans but not Maldonia.
The series can also formally introduce Naveen’s parents, setup some fish out of water scenarios for Tiana as well as discuss the importance and fundamentals of marriage beyond the fairy tale ending.
The same website reveals that Tiana is due to premiere on the streaming platform next year!
