The importance of the opening scene in Obi-Wan Kenobi
As much as Star Wars is an ever-expanding universe of hope and friendship, it is also one of fear and evil. The opening scene of the Disney Plus series Obi-Wan Kenobi embodied all of that in one chilling, chaotic yet encouraging scene.
Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1 episode 1 began with the night the Jedi Temple is under attack by Anakin Skywalker and his army of Clone Troopers. Senator Palpatine who would later go by Emperor Palpatine, has given the infamous Order 66 which means all the Jedi, even younglings are to be executed.
Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, shows how this horrific act plays out as Jedi are betrayed by the Clone Troopers and killed across the galaxy in an attack they never saw coming. One of the more common places you’d find Jedi is the Jedi Temple where we only saw a glimpse of the situation.
However, Obi-Wan Kenobi decided to take the audience on the journey as one female Jedi Master tries to lead her group of younglings to safety. She is unfortunately killed but the younglings continue towards escape.
Do the younglings escape the attack at the Jedi Temple in Obi-Wan Kenobi?
However, we are not shown if they survive or not. In our opinion, they did, and either we’ve been seeing them since the series began or will be seeing them.
The Star Wars series takes place 10 years after the attack which means these children are probably in their late teens, early to mid-twenties at most. We do not hear any names being mentioned nor do we see the children up close.
Our guess is one of those children may be Reva, the Inquisitor willing to do anything to capture Obi-Wan Kenobi. It was revealed in Episode 2 that she is a Jedi.
It could also be possible that one of those kids was the unnamed Jedi killed in the first episode. The opening scene was meant for the audience to have a basic first-person view of what happened while feeling like you are trying to escape alive.
It’s heart wrenching and upsetting all at the same time but could this have also meant to give us hope? Could the intent be to show us that while a majority of Jedi were killed, some did survive?
But even if they survived the initial attack were they then later found and killed by Inquisitors? Episode 3 has been released and we look forward to learning more about what happened in the past as Obi-Wan Kenobi struggles with surviving in the present.
