The third episode from Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1 begins with Obi-Wan failing to communicate with his Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. Instead, the Jedi Master replays statements in his head from Yoda, Qui-Gon, Anakin Skywalker, and the Third Sister, Reva.
While this goes on, audiences see the actual process Darth Vader goes through to appear as his iconic self after Obi-Wan sliced him up on Mustafar. After he gets dressed, Vader talks with Reva, demanding that she focuses only on Kenobi.
The Sith Lord goes on to say if she succeeds, she will be a Grand Inquisitor. But if she fails, she will not live to regret it.
Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1 episode 3: Obi-Wan and Leia arrive at the coordinates
While on the trade route escaping the Inquisitors, Leia pesters Obi-Wan about how slow they are going and why he can’t just use the Force. Kenobi explains how that is not how the Force works but rather it is like turning the light on after you get scared in the dark.
The cargo transport eventually arrives at the mining system planet of Mapuzo. Kenobi and Leia easily sneak away from the stormtroopers standing guard.
As they are making their trek to the coordinates, Obi-Wan catches a glimpse of Anakin that turns out to be just a vision in his head. He carries on with the little princess.
At their Imperial base, Reva explains to her fellow Inquisitors that she just spoke to Lord Vader personally. She will be leading the mission, even though the Fifth Brother is next in line.
Since she is in charge, Reva releases tracking probes knowing Kenobi is somewhere in the mining systems after tracking the cargo ship.
Obi-Wan and Leia arrive at the coordinates given to them by Haja Estree but it is in the middle of a field. When a cruiser is driving along the road, Leia waves them down to find Freck.
Obi-Wan explains they need to find the nearest port and since Freck is going that way, he invites them into the back of his vehicle. As Obi-Wan is getting on, however, he notices the Empire symbol and remains on high alert.
Things get worse when Freck picks up some stormtroopers. They get in with Leia and Obi-Wan in the back.
After they share pleasantries the stormtroopers ask if the two travelers know anything about a Jedi possibly in these parts. Obi-Wan says they do not know anything while using the cover story that they are on this planet to pay tribute to Leia’s fake dead mom; Obi-Wan’s fake dead wife.
In the process, Obi-Wan accidentally calls Leia by her real name and not the fake one they gave. However, he recovers by explaining he sees Leia’s mother whenever he looks at the young princess.
Their deceptions work and they can get away from the stormtroopers. As they are going to the port, Leia confronts the man she calls Ben about her birth parents.
Although Kenobi does not provide a lot of substance, he does assure her that not being with your birth family is not all bad. He reveals how he was taken from his family but found a new one in the Jedi.
Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1 episode 3: More allies present themselves
Freck and his truck pull up to a traffic stop barricade armed with stormtroopers. It turns out Freck brought his two traveling strays here so his Empire buddies could inspect them.
Obi-Wan is about to be found out when he pulls out his blaster and proves how much better a semi-retired Jedi Master is compared to a stormtrooper. The first group of troopers are taken care of, but when they pass through the gate, a handful more pull up, backed by an Imperial officer.
This Imperial officer ends up double-crossing her companion troopers, proving to be the ally that Haja sent Obi-Wan to. She tells the Jedi that a pilot will take him and Leia, but he is not leaving for a while.
She leaves the two temporarily to make sure the coast is clear. As Leia waits, she starts to blame herself for all of this happening because she ran away and got captured.
Obi-Wan comforts her saying it is not her fault, but the bad people are the ones to blame. This is when their new ally welcomes them into a droid maintenance building that is all automated.
This means no people will be there. Here, a secret passage leads to what is called “The Path”, a way for Jedi or Force-sensitive folks to obtain new identities.
After a little scare from some nosy troopers, the timeline is pushed up and they need to leave immediately. Leia and Obi-Wan are led by their new friend, who says her name is Tala, and start heading down the path.
Suddenly, Kenobi gets an uneasy feeling. This is because the Inquisitors have arrived on Mapuzo, along with Darth Vader.
Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1 episode 3: Kenobi faces his greatest failure
Lord Vader is tormenting and killing the citizens in the port, knowing that it will draw out his old Jedi Master. Obi-Wan tries running away so Leia and Tala can escape, when Vader finds him and the two begin dueling in the quarry.
Eventually, Vader burns Kenobi’s arm just like the Jedi did to him.
Tala knows she should go back and help Obi-Wan and instructs Leia to continue down the one-lane path. With the help of her mute droid NED-B, Tala saves Obi-Wan from the flames and then uses the fire to separate herself, her droid, and Obi-Wan from Vader, ensuring their escape.
While Vader and Kenobi were fighting, Reva and the other Inquisitors search the town looking for clues or others helping Obi-Wan. She eventually comes across the droid maintenance building, likely because she could sense Kenobi, and then finds The Path.
As Leia is running to the end, Reva kills the intended pilot, waiting for the unsuspecting young princess.
How do you think Obi-Wan will fare now that he has fought his former student? Do you think Reva will figure out the relationship between Leia and her Lord Vader?
