What is the Netflix series Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight about?

Po is back and ready to protect the innocent civilians of China, but his ambitions become his downfall in the upcoming Netflix DreamWorks series Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight. For those unfamiliar, Po (Jack Black) is the main character of the DreamWorks Kung Fu Panda film franchise.

Po’s journey starts from dreaming of becoming a kung fu warrior to actually becoming The Dragon Warrior and fighting alongside the Furious Five (Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Monkey (Jackie Chan), Viper (Lucy Liu), Crane (David Cross), and Mantis (Seth Rogen). Along the way, he learns kung fu through Master Shifu’s (Dustin Hoffman) teachings and learns to embrace himself and his own skills.

The films had their fair share of humor, pretty brutal villains (Ian McShane and Gary Oldman were perfect for the roles), heartbreaking moments, and taught some great morals that still hold up today. Since Kung Fu Panda arrived to theaters in 2008, the story has continued to unfold until now it seems a television series was in order.

Original fans (like myself) can continue to embrace the panda and “feel the thunder” while new ones will be introduced to who will surely be one of their favorite DreamWorks characters. The official Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight trailer has been released and doesn’t fall short on telling viewers what the series is about.

Will Po be able to keep his title of Dragon Master in the upcoming Netflix DreamWorks series Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight?

Jack Black is returning to voice Po, who is now The Dragon Master, but fails to stop two evil weasels from stealing one of four powerful weapons. Naturally the villagers want his title revoked.

But Po may be able to save himself and his title when a mysterious warrior Wandering Blade (Rita Ora) arrives. She’s seeking The Dragon Master, and much like the theme of the other films, wasn’t expecting him to be a giant panda.

Together they must stop the weasels from obtaining the weapons and destroying the world. While the Furious Five are missing from the trailer, it will be interesting to see how well Wandering Blade fits into the long-established Kung Fu Panda world.

Will Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight be the first of many Kung Fu Panda-themed shows to air on Netflix? Will this lead to another Kung Fu Panda film?
