The sixth episode of The Umbrella Academy season 3 kicks off with a flashback to 2014. Here, Pogo is wearing a Sparrow tracksuit and instructing the six siblings.
When Ben and Jayme do a sparring exercise, Ben gets cocky with his power and does not notice Jayme stabs one of his tentacles. Because Pogo and Reginald would have handled the situation differently, Reginald excuses his kids to talk to his long-time friend.
Pogo states they are not ready to go to the other side adding that Reginald has lost his humanity. After he alludes to never having any humanity, Reginald dismisses Pogo and tells him to leave in an hour.
As Pogo is leaving The Sparrow Academy, he hands Marcus a case of pills, likely for Reginald, and goes on his way.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 episode 6: Diego and Lila find a secret door
Returning back to the present day, Five tries convincing Pogo of the multiple timelines and how he is Reginald’s child. Pogo does not show any belief in Five so he uses the cover of his biker gang to escape Five’s bothersome questions.
The two go on to have a motorcycle chase. Away from people who want to do him harm, Harlan and Allison are reunited with Viktor after barely getting along.
Viktor does not have a solid plan, but Allison is giving him one day with Harlan to try and figure out how to take back Harlan’s powers. Sloane brings Luther some breakfast as he explains how he is unsure if he even has his family anymore.
As Sloane sympathizes with her lover, Fei knocks on the door and informs Sloane that she heard the two of them all night. She adds that Ben would like a word with Luther.
Walking through the hotel, Lila is looking for Stanley. She fears Stan was “kugelblitzed” away, something that gets a groggy Diego up and out of bed.
The two explore the White Buffalo Suite to find the secret doorway and assume a nosy 12-year-old would definitely go inside. This doorway leads down an optical illusion hallway filled with trippy mirrors and lights.
At the end of the hallway, Diego and Lila find a White Buffalo Suite that has a lot of the items in it changed or altered somehow. This, understandably, freaks out both of Stanley’s parents.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 episode 6: Luther’s loyalties are tested
In their secluded area, Harlan teaches Viktor about how everything in the world has an energy wave. Viktor will be able to hear it if he just focuses his listening.
Harlan demonstrates this and Viktor copies him, creating an energy bubble around them. Allison watches this happen and believes Harlan is hurting and killing Viktor.
When the bubble grows and Allison enters it, she yells at Harlan to stop which he does because Allison’s words pushed him back. Since Viktor still wants to keep going, Allison leaves unable to watch her brother be in pain.
In The Sparrow Academy main room, Luther and Ben have a one-on-one conversation. Ben gets some answers about why the Umbrellas have a weird Ben thing.
Luther explains it was because the old Ben was the best of them but died too soon at “The Jennifer Incident.” He believes a part of the old Ben is inside this version.
Ben denies it before giving Luther a Sparrow uniform, inviting him onto the team. Luther is flattered but denies it since he is an Umbrella.
Ben lets him stay and states he will not tell the onlooking Fei his plan. Five goes on to follow Pogo to his home deep in the woods.
Inside, Pogo drops the act of being oblivious and shares what he knows about the symbols from old man Five’s tattoo. He explains Reginald was obsessed with the images because it was a sigil believed to be magic.
He adds this was all part of Reginald’s Project Oblivion. This sets off an alarm in Five’s head since his 100-year-old self said “Oblivion” in episode 4.
Five then has Pogo tell him everything.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 episode 6: Viktor tries to take Harlan’s powers
Up in Reginald’s office, Klaus breaks in again. He begins talking through his problems and asks the man who looks like his dad about the White Buffalo Suite and why he locked Klaus in a mausoleum until his heart rate slowed down.
Reginald takes him in to try and provide answers. Diego and Lila are walking through the hotel lobby and discover a Japanese theme and with the hotel now being called The Hotel Oblivion.
Lila then slips up and reveals Stanley is not Lila or Diego’s child. Klaus explains his time on the other side with the young person on the bike.
Reginald is fascinated by it, so he tricks Klaus into starting some experiments, the first one being Klaus receiving an electro-shock which knocks him out. Pogo goes on to explain to Five how Reginald had a plan to use the Sparrows for a “kamikaze” mission.
His efforts to protect the Sparrows from this plan look to be all for naught since Project Oblivion has begun again. Because of this, Five gets the tattoo he pulled off his old man self.
During their training, Harlan states Viktor is not listening correctly. Using the comparison of bees being able to find pollen because of their opposite charges, Harlan tells Viktor to sense for something he calls “marigold,” and to stopping listening with his ears.
Taking a break from metaphorically and literally being thrown around, Allison has visions of Ray. She knows these visions are fake, which makes her question her own sanity.
This is especially difficult since she has lost the two people closest to her. Vision Ray reminds her that he and Claire are always with her.
A storm begins brewing and Allison knows Viktor and Harlan are causing this. When she returns back to them, they are floating with an energy beam linking them.
Eventually, their connection grows strong enough for Harlan to release the orbs that Viktor passed to him at the lake in 1963. After this, a small blast knocks Viktor, Harlan, and Allison down on the ground.
All three of them are alive and Harlan announces his powers are gone.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 episode 6: Allison learns the truth
Processing the fact that Stanley is not his child, Lila explains the kid will be fine. This whole thing upsets Diego to the point that his stutter came back.
This is something that has only really happened when dealing with Reginald. Viktor is recovering from absorbing all that power as Allison and Harlan talk outside.
Because he thought Viktor told the Umbrellas, Harlan shares with Allison that he was responsible for all the mothers dying, the paradox, and Claire not being alive anymore. Diego tries to look outside of the hotel, but he just loops inside.
Due to this confusion, he rings the front desk bell, which has a sign next to it that says to never ring it, and a loud gong rings. As the lobby is engulfed in yellow light, footsteps are heard before Diego’s left hand loses two fingers.
With 18 fingers between them, they run away from this figure back towards the White Buffalo Suite. After holding the door down on the original side of the suite, Stanley walks in with a slushie and Slim Jim, revealing he never walked through the secret door.
This relief is short-lived because the kugel wave occurs and evaporates Stanley right before Diego and Lila’s eyes. Now that she knows the truth, Allison drops off Harlan’s body at The Sparrow Academy.
This satisfaction of ending the conflict turns into disgust when she sees Luther wearing a Sparrow uniform.
Do you think Allison made the right choice in turning in Harlan? How do you think Luther’s decision will impact how his family works alongside the Sparrows?
