Everyone’s favorite character from Big Hero 6 has arrived with his own television series on Disney Plus! Baymax! consisting of six episodes features the personal healthcare companion as he provides necessary albeit unwanted help to those in need.

Episodes 1 and 2 feature Hiro’s Aunt Cass who gets hurt while working at the busy cafe and Kiko, the elderly woman who seems to be avoiding the community pool.

Baymax! Season 1 Episode 1 recap – Cass

There is no doubt that Aunt Cass is a hard-working woman. She runs the entire cafe (The Lucky Cat Cafe) all on her own without a single issue or complaint.

But things go awry when she accidentally sprains her ankle, prompting Baymax to help. Aunt Cass can either close the cafe while she recovers or allow Baymax to cover for her.

When trying to watch Baymax work via camera on Mochi’s head fails, Aunt Cass spends the entire day trying to still do her job without him noticing. But he catches her repeatedly.

Fed up and upset, Aunt Cass reveals the reason she doesn’t want to the close the cafe is because she fears her customers will leave. But she was worrying for nothing.

When she spots Mochi and the camera she finds that her cafe customers miss her and wish her well. She was always more than just a business owner but a true friend.

Baymax! Season 1 Episode 2 recap – Kiko

While tossing junk mail into the trash, Kiko hurts her back. Baymax arrives on the scene to help her, regardless of her constantly refusals.

Baymax notices she lives next door to the community pool and suggests she swim. She hastily explains she has a fear of water and returns to her home.

Baymax decides to help Kiko with her fear in several comedic ways until she’s had enough. Hoping to subdue Baymax she follows him, unknowingly heading to the community pool.

It’s here that she admits she wasn’t afraid of water but the memories of her husband loving the pool and wanting her to join him. Baymax convinces her to swim in the pool with him as the episode closes.

Baymax! Season 1 Episodes 1 and 2 review

Episodes 1 and 2 were short and sweet. The story doesn’t need to be expanded into a half hour or more when the lesson or moral can be explained so exquisitely in manner or eleven minutes or so.

It was nice to see both a familiar face from Big Hero 6 and someone entirely new. This is the ideal way to continue creating the world of Big Hero 6.

You are not just designated to the cafe or to The San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. You are seeing what the city looks like and how it functions from different perspectives.

It is a little hilarious how everyone’s immediate response to Baymax is fear due to his overabundance of care and selflessness. But in the end, he means well and is able to help more than he realizes.
