Ms. Marvel season 1, episode 5 recap: Time and Again

In Ms. Marvel season 1 episode 5 “Time and Again” Kamala finally learns what happened to Aisha, and how her grandmother found her great grandfather at the train station. Meanwhile, the gate to the Noor Dimension is opened.

Season 1 is nearly finished but how does episode 5 prepare audiences for the upcoming season finale? Let’s take a look!

Ms. Marvel Season 1 Episode 5 recap – Aisha and Hasan

After Aisha flees the temple and her fellow Djinn, she arrives at a small village and meets Hasan. Although Hasan has a bad limp and walks with a cane, he is dedicated to the people finding freedom from British rule.

After a rough first meeting, she eventually warms up to Hasan, and the two fall in love. Together they live in the village and give birth to Kamala’s grandmother Sana.

However, time hasn’t been kind as their troubles grow with the impending Partition. This includes hate against Muslims.

On top of that Najma finds Aisha and orders for the bracelet to be handed over the next day. Aisha convinces Hasan they need to flee due to the growing hate and concerns over British rule.

Together they arrive at the Karachi train station. Hasan is suspicious of his wife’s behavior causing her to finally comes clean about who she is, what the bracelet is, and why they have to leave.

Hasan believes her. Not long after their arrival Aisha gives the bracelet to Sana and leads her family away from Najma.

Najma kills Aisha for her betrayal. In the midst of the families trying to flee the country, we return to Kamala who is stuck in this past memory.

Ms. Marvel Season 1 Episode 5 recap – Kamala’s Impact

Kamala finds a dying Aisha who gives her a photograph of the family at their home and asks her to save Sana. Sana is separated from her father, lost in the sea of fleeing crowds.

Kamala finds her and using the bracelet is able to help Sana find her father. Kamala realizes in that moment that she is the reason her grandmother finds her great grandfather.

The two are able to get on the last train, but never know what becomes of Aisha. After the memory ends, the gate to the Noor Dimension is opened!

However, the gate is dangerous and needs to be closed. Kamala convinces Najma to close the gate but in doing so, she dies, or does she?

Upon the gate dramatically closing Kamala’s mother and grandmother arrive having tracked her location through her cell phone. Kamala’s mother seems to take the news that her daughter is The Night Light unusually well.

But the moment that truly matters is Kamala giving her grandmother the photo from Aisha. It seems as though her grandmother knew Kamala would be able to find the answers she was seeking.

Kamala bids farewell to Kareem as all seems good, right?

Ms. Marvel Season 1 Episode 5 recap – Kamran?

Meanwhile back in America, Bruno is unexpectedly visited by Kamran. Kamran asks Bruno for a place to stay as his mother and the group abandoned him.

Bruno allows him to stay, claiming he doesn’t have any family either. As the two seem to finally be getting along for the first time all season, Kamran becomes aware of a nearby danger.

Without warning he realizes he’s been discovered, and Bruno’s home is under attack! The episode concludes with this chaotic ending with no clues as to who attacked them and if Kamran is really Kamran or Najma somehow possessing her son’s body.

Ms. Marvel Season 1 Episode 5 review

Episode 5 really picked things up from a rather stagnant episode 4. The love story between Aisha and Hasan was quick but effective however I was surprised that in the end Aisha was killed.

I had assumed (more like hoped) she simply ran away to protect her family from Najma. The truth and how Kamala was actually the reason her grandmother and great grandfather were safely reunited was touching and heartwarming.

I love the way Kamala grew as a character throughout the season while still being herself every step of the way. Now that her mother seems to have at least an idea about what is going on, I hope this will lead to their relationship improving.

Trouble is Kamala doesn’t know that she is going home to Bruno possibly being hurt or kidnapped and Kamran being possessed by Najma. How will Ms. Marvel season 1 conclude?
