Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 1 Episode 2 recap – Po and Luthera
While Klaus and Veruca manage to use the mighty power of the gauntlet against some unfriendly alligator foes, Po finally catches up with Luthera. Well, more like he’s thrown at her by the power of the gauntlet thumb he wears.
After much consideration Luthera allows Po to take her to a shortcut to find the weasels. On their journey, Po believes he become a knight of kung fu.
Luthera quickly squashes his dreams by informing him how difficult it is to become a knight. As they stop to eat Po notices Luthera eating dry bread and offers some of his father’s sauce.
Mistaking spicy for poison she attacks Po, but all is soon forgiven. The two bond over Luthera’s love of warriors and tales from back home that were written down in The Knight’s Code book.
During this moment in the episode, we learn that Klaus and Veruca were ninjas who attempted and failed to assassinate The Queen of England. They escaped, were banished, and made their way to China to steal the gauntlet.
After hearing her story, Po wants to train to become a knight but must first become Wandering Blade’s page. His first task is to carry her heavy helmet.
As the two come to a lava river, the same one Klaus and Veruca crossed earlier, Wandering Blade becomes furious that they have no way to cross. Add to it Po accidentally drops her helmet into the lava.
But he is not as useless as he may appear. By channeling inner peace Po is able to cross the lava river by using the rocks and makes it to the other side.
Using one rope from the destroyed bridge, Wandering Blade attempts to cross when the alligators return. Po and Wandering Blade fight them off together, but the alligator leader has his eyes set on her sword, The Black Steel of Equinox.
Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 1 Episode 2 recap – Retrieving The Black Steel of Equinox
The battle is far from over for even after Wandering Blade makes it safely across, they need to escape the alligators who cleverly use their tails to surf down the lava river. Po and Wandering Blade reach a dead end and her sword is stolen!
She attempts to retrieve it climbing up the mountain side but failing. Po finally convinces her that they need to work together to get it back.
Just when the two reach the top with the sword, they are attacked by a large horde of alligators. As they stumble down the mountain Po manages to save Wandering Blade.
Using inner peace again Po is able to leap back from the lava river, fight off the alligators and reach safety. Wandering Blade can see that there is more to Po than his appearance, but we can’t dwell on that when the thumb of the gauntlet tugs Po towards a specific direction.
In the distance they see the gauntlet being used against a rocky terrain as the episode draws to a close.
Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 1 Episode 2 review
One of the things I truly loved about Kung Fu Panda was the way different animals are used as both heroes and villains. In the films we had the likes of a snow leopard and a white peacock as main villains with wolves and gorillas as minions.
This time we are seeing alligators play a bigger role as unfriendly folk with cool modifications to suit their needs as they live by a lava river. The episode was a joy from beginning to end, reminding us how Po is always stronger than he appears.
Yes, he’s goofy, clumsy and always desperate to impress others due to his own lack of self-confidence but he’s very in tune with kung fu and truly valuable in his own way. This episode really pushed to show the similarities yet differences between Po’s and Wandering Blade’s fighting styles and cultures, even down to food preferences.
While at first, I had assumed the missing thumb would make the gauntlet useless, it’s actually our heroes only way of tracking the gauntlet, which makes for a more clever and better use of storytelling.
