Po and Wandering Blade find themselves too late after Klaus and Veruca use the gauntlet on a hedgehog village. Season 1 episode 3 of Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight titled “The Lotus” has Po debating if he should do the right thing, even if it means losing what’s left of his reputation.

Let’s talk about what happens next in this DreamWorks series on Netflix!

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 1 Episode 3 recap – Right and Wrong

The episode begins with a hedgehog who is tired of writing and asked to leave for the day. The hedgehog leaves showing audiences the rocky hedgehog village where the main mode of transportation are tall bamboo poles.

It doesn’t take long for Klaus and Veruca to attack. This is the village we see getting attacked from a distance during the last episode.

When Po and Wandering Blade arrive, they learn the village is of hedgehog monks who save and record China’s history. Some of which is Po’s service.

The village still views him as The Dragon Master and repeatedly mistakes Wandering Blade as his apprentice; even though Po tells them repeatedly he’s ‘her’ page. The hedgehogs claim to have captured those responsible for the mess, but it is not the weasel siblings.

It’s the hedgehog from the beginning of the episode. Even though she’s innocent in the mess the monks won’t hear it.

The hedgehog saw Klaus and Veruca and is willing to provide more information if they help her escape. Po is hesitant to do this as the monks do not hate him like the rest of China.

However, Wandering Blade reminds him that important and difficult choices must be made as a knight. Po reluctantly agrees and after failing, hilariously, several times he makes it to the prison cell.

He lies to the hedgehogs on duty that he’s taking the prisoner to the Imperial Guards just as Imperial Guards arrive. Po and Wandering Blade fight off the Imperial Guards and escape.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 1 Episode 3 recap – To be continued

Safely away from the village, they free the hedgehog, and she provides key information that will propel the season forward. The story in simple terms was that the world was one continent when four beings wanted to steal a great power for themselves.

This threw off the balance of the elements (Earth, Fire, Water, and Air) and thus the land was split. This power was also divided into four items; the gauntlet (which Klaus and Veruca have), a fire whip thingy (her words, not mine), a helmet and something else (a mystery for now).

These items are powerful on their own but more powerful when used together. As the hedgehog distracts the monks and Imperial Guards, Po and Wandering Blade leave.

The duo realizes the gauntlet thumb alerts them to the presence of the gauntlet too late when they need to arrive beforehand. Po realizes the whip is actually the fire whip that he read from a graphic novel based on true stories.

He reads through the story to find the location of the fire whip, but it ends with a ‘To Be Continued’, at the same time the episode closes in the same way.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 1 Episode 3 review

Episode 3 felt a little slow compared to episodes 1 and 2 however that doesn’t mean it was a waste. We now know what Klaus and Veruca’s plan is, and we see Po put in a difficult position for the first time in a while.

He values his title as Dragon Master and has come to love the attention and respect he’s received from China. This is something he never really had before the ending of the film Kung Fu Panda.

He’s not surprised that many write him off as he’s a chubby panda. So, for Po to give up his reputation by the one group that seems to still believe in him by doing the right thing isn’t easy for him to do.

It was actually quite sad to see the monks disappointed in him as the last thing Po ever wants to do is disappoint someone. But we all know he did the right thing in the bigger picture.

Aside from that the imaginative and creative way the hedgehog village functioned was very cool! You can tell the writers of this series and the Kung Fu Panda Universe (I can call it that right?) know the world so well and continue to build it in such amazing ways!
