Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight season 1, episode 4 recap
Klaus and Veruca aren’t the only foes Po and Wandering Blade need to worry about. Netflix‘s Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight season 1 episode 4 titled, “The Legend of Master Longtooth” has The Emperor of China sending The Forbidden Company to retrieve Po.
Will Po and Wandering Blade be able to fight them off? How will our heroes find the fire whip?
Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 1 Episode 4 recap – Lao
The episode begins with The Emperor finding out from his Imperial Guards that Po had stopped them from retrieving their prisoner. This would be the hedgehog who helped our heroes last episode.
In response The Emperor orders The Forbidden Company to find and bring Po to him. We’ll get into more detail about this group later.
Meanwhile, Po and Wandering Blade debate about what to do next as The Dragon Master rereads his graphic novel. In the story, Master Longtooth uses the fire whip during the war and helps defeat the villains.
Wandering Blade doesn’t believe the story to be true. Po comes up with a plan to talk to the author, hoping he’d reveal the location of the fire whip.
As they approach the village, which looks to be a cross between a Renaissance Faire and a Comic Convention, Po’s face is plastered everywhere on wanted posters. He is able to enter wearing a makeshift costume of Master Bamboozled.
Yes, the costume is made of bamboo, and I love it! Wandering Blade finds all of this childish until an actual child approaches her and becomes amazed, believing her to be a real warrior.
As Po and Wandering Blade approach the author’s home, they discover the author died three months ago. His son Lao is chasing off fans, refusing to allow them entry.
Add to it, he won’t let them read his father’s last graphic novel. Po and Wandering Blade break in which prompts Lao to sound the alarm and alert The Forbidden Company to their whereabouts.
They were already hot on their trail thanks to a ram Po happened to help in the beginning of the episode. It turns out the reason Lao is acting this way is because the last graphic novel is the only thing he has left of his father.
Understanding his situation, Wandering Blade reveals how her sword was actually her brother’s. By not using it and refusing to accept he died would be a disservice to the weapon.
Lao changes his mind, reading the last graphic novel with her in which they find out Master Longtooth hides the fire whip within a secret lost city. Lao believes he knows where to find it as he had visited the same mountains with his father as drawn in the graphic novel.
He hands the duo a map to where he believes the lost city is and promises to allow others to read the last graphic novel.
Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 1 Episode 4 recap – The Forbidden Company
As the duo leaves, Po considers Wandering Blade his friend, but she doesn’t share the same sentiment. If it comes to her mission or Po, she will always choose her mission.
Her statement startles Po but the two can’t dwell long as The Forbidden Company arrives. Four, kimono dragons with toxic spit attack, nearly putting innocent civilians in danger.
Po and Wandering Blade struggle, in which Po is captured when Wandering Blade defends the child from earlier. As Po is placed within an iron cage, Wandering Blade watches on, map in hand.
The last shot of the episode is Po realizing Wandering Blade is not coming to rescue him.
Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 1 Episode 4 review
Talk about blaring the foreshadowing alert! Although I wouldn’t be surprised if Wandering Blade changes her mind.
I can’t completely fault her as she, similarly to Tigress from the films, are very devoted and loyal to their own causes. It took time for Tigress to warm up and befriend Po, so surely Wandering Blade will too.
I enjoyed the episode overall and the story of Lao and Wandering Blade losing their father and brother were a subtle but nice touch into some more serios subjects. This is not something DreamWorks hasn’t done before as Kung Fu Panda 2 literally dealt with the near extinction of pandas and how Po came to be Mr. Ping’s son.
Regardless, it’s nice to see something geared towards families cover all aspects from jokes and friendships to dealing with grief and learning to make the right decisions. I like that once again Kung Fu Panda villains are not only cool to look at but are downright intimidating.
I hope as much as I want Po and Wandering Blade to succeed that The Forbidden Company are a more common villain for the series. They are way to unique and creative to be wasted.
