Po and Wandering Blade are both trying to reach the lost city but Klaus and Veruca aren’t far behind. In Netflix‘s Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight season 1 episode 5 “The Gateway to the Desert” both heroes and villains meet unexpectedly at the spice market.

But is there another villain out to collect the bounty for Po? Let’s talk more about it!

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 1 Episode 5 recap – Po and Wandering Blade

The episode begins following both Po and Wandering Blade, as The Dragon Master is pondering loudly why Wandering Blade betrayed him while she, herself, debates if she did the right thing or not. The Kimono dragons group struggle to push Po in the iron cage when suddenly the group is attacked by a mysterious cloaked figure with one eye.

Po manages to escape downhill and crashes the iron cage freeing him. However, he has no idea which direction the desert is?

Luckily one of The Forbidden Company arrives, asking for another chance in the hopes of helping Po and proving he can be taken seriously. Po decides to give him a chance and the two continue onward to the spice market.

Meanwhile the child from the previous episode has caught up with Wandering Blade, confused as to why her friend isn’t present. Wandering Blade does not view Po as her friend and tries to provide some adult advice to the small child.

But the little girl, wants to help Wandering Blade as she had helped her. Once she does, she will return home.

The two continue towards the spice market residing in the middle of the desert. Of course, Klaus and Veruca aren’t far behind.

After arguing and getting caught in a sandstorm they too arrive to the spice market.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 1 Episode 5 recap – The Spice Market

The spice market does not seem to be a friendly place, as everyone scowls at passersby. As reclusive as the spice market seems to be, Po’s wanted posters are everywhere.

He responds by doodling on them, and no one seems to notice. As he enjoys delicious meals, Klaus and Veruca cause a ruckus.

When Po attempts to approach, he realizes he’s been cuffed to the noodle stand. The Kimono dragon had lied, shocking The Dragon Master.

There seems to be a lot of betrayals on this show. Just an observation.

Eventually Wandering Blade catches up with them and nearly has Veruca in her grasp when the mysterious cloaked figure returns. Po and Wandering Blade barely escape, following Klaus and Veruca when another sandstorm approaches.

After arguing with each other, they agree to be a team and take on the mysterious figure together. Surprisingly they are saved!

They are dropped below into a tunnel that is actually the little girl’s home. Po and Wandering Blade manage to escape to continue their journey thanks to her help.

But when the little girl reunites with her parents the mysterious cloaked figure approaches. He is revealed to be a tall goat, with removable horns that act as his deadly weapons.

Again, another cool and creative villain! How do you think of this stuff?!

You really outdid yourselves! Unfortunately for our heroes, it is likely the family will provide information to the goat to save themselves.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 1 Episode 5 review

Apparently, food both brings people together while tearing them apart. Thankfully Po and Wandering Blade’s drama, shall we call it, is over but they have another foe to worry about.

The Forbidden Company are probably gone for now, but this new, mysterious goat character is probably a mercenary out to capture Po for The Emperor. The fact that he easily took out the entire The Forbidden Company, which keep in mind are supposed to be extremely dangerous and strong, is quite the feat.

Staying on topic, I am thoroughly impressed with how the introduction of another villain is done perfectly! There have been a lot of new characters introduced and it is only the fifth episode!

But unlike other shows I’ve seen where you want to eyeroll at rushed introductions, new characters that are lazily written and so forth, this time it fits with the story while also being very well written. You can tell the team behind this show really took time and effort to make sure every character you see tells a separate story.

I look forward to the next episode and learning more about this new villain!
