In Netflix‘s Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight season 1 episode 7 titled, “The Last Guardian” Po and Wandering Blade must retrieve the fire whip while Colin is stuck with the likes of Klaus and Veruca. But just who is this guardian of the fire whip and how will Po and Wandering Blade convince her to hand it over?

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 1 Episode 7 recap – The Plot Thickens for the Villains

Klaus and Veruca follow Colin through the desert, trying to steal the map from him. They continually fail and instead wind up stealing a notebook that contains very beautifully written poetry.

Veruca, naturally, finds it awfully amusing. Throughout the episode, they continually annoy Colin until they have an actual mini fight.

Colin hurts his leg pretty badly leaving Klaus and Veruca in a tight spot. Veruca wants to leave him behind, but Klaus decides to heal him with a potion.

However by doing this, Colin discovers they are mages and attacks. In the process Klaus loses his other potions, becomes severely wounded and the two nearly die if it weren’t for the gauntlet.

As Po can control the thumb of the gauntlet, he too can control Veruca who wears it. The two may have escaped Colin for now but things aren’t looking good for Klaus.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 1 Episode 7 recap – The Plot Twist

The core of episode brings us back to Po and Wandering Blade meeting the Protector of the Whip of Endless Flame. Unfortunately for our heroes, she will not give up her post or the whip claiming there is no way out of the city.

Keep in mind she talks to rock and moss statues which is odd and when confronted about it she feigns offense. The fact our heroes are stuck prompts one of several panic attacks for Po who misses his home and father dearly.

During each panic attack he nearly blacks out and remembers his time with his father as a baby. This constant battle within himself often causes more problems, especially when they figure out where the blocked exit is.

In the process Po and Wandering Blade defeat zombie skeletons and manage to unblock the exit long enough for the protector and Wandering Blade to escape. Po doesn’t make it in time and starts spiraling once again.

His anxiety conjures his father who gives Po the boost he needs. This is occurring at the same time as Veruca and Klaus’s fight with Colin.

Po uses the thumb of the gauntlet to break through the exit only to discover that the protector had lied. Another plot twist in this series!

The protector was actually a thief who stole the fire whip but became trapped within the lost city. The fire whip was actually her staff the entire time.

She manages to escape with it but now Po knows that they can bring Klaus and Veruca to them using the gauntlet thumb.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 1 Episode 7 review

The plot twists never get old! To be fair I did have some suspicions about the monkey protector, and she may be my least favorite character of the series at this point.

Not to mention annoying to boot. I did like that Colin, while having this stoic and deadly persona has a talent for poetry.

It’s the perfect blend of irony and humor for such a show as this! Trouble is of course, the fire whip.

We are now in episode 7 with only a few more to go and we have yet to find the helmet or figure out what the fourth weapon even is. Does this mean a season two is in order?

Will the series somehow wrap up in time for the finale? A second season wouldn’t be a bad idea depending on how season one concludes.
