Lightning McQueen and Mater are back in their own series coming to Disney Plus titled, Cars on the Road. Mark your calendars for September 8!
Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy will be reprising their roles as the iconic duo finds themselves meeting new characters and visiting new places. Cars is an interesting franchise with several films, shorts, and a whole themed-land called Cars Land located at Disneyland Resort.
The basic story of Cars follows the self-centered and vain famous racecar driver Lightning McQueen. His quest to win the coveted Piston Cup changes when he finds himself on the abandoned Route 66 in a very isolated town called Radiator Springs.
During McQueen’s time there he meets Mater, who later becomes his best friend, and Sally, his future girlfriend. He learns how to become a better person both on and off the racetrack thanks to Doc Hudson, the once famous Hudson Hornet.
What is the upcoming Disney Plus series Cars on the Road about?
By the end of his journey, McQueen cares not if he wins or loses the race and instead puts the focus on the friends he made. Afterward, we follow McQueen as he resides in Radiator Springs with his friends when he is not racing.
So, then what will Cars on the Road be about? Mater’s sister whom no one knew existed, is getting married.
McQueen decides to go with him and together they have a long, wild and unexpected road trip. The road trip, much like the ones we enjoy from times of the past and present is full of strange roadside stops and interesting characters.
Who wouldn’t want to get lost in the world’s largest tire maze, or visit their version of Stonehenge, or enjoy the circus? We get brief glimpses of the situations the best friend duo finds themselves in and we’re intrigued!
