She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is beginning to show how Jennifer’s life as both herself and She-Hulk blends together when she decides to dive into the dating world. But sometimes that can be interrupted by her job.

Especially when it comes to things beyond human comprehension. Episode 4 “Blaze It” reveals how complicated working in the Superhuman Law Division can be as well as dating in your 30s.

The episode begins with mediocre magician Donny Blaze, performing before a barely impressed audience in Florida. Noticing the audience’s disinterest, he decides to have a volunteer help him perform his next trick.

His volunteer, the barely coherent Madisynn winds up getting transported to another dimension before finding herself at Wong’s home. Wong is furious that a previous student has been using powers for magic tricks with no regard for the consequences.

He goes to Jennifer seeking help, but the case won’t be easy as human laws do not follow or agree with magical ones. Donny’s magic tricks are hardly professional outside of using the abilities he learned but they argue it is playful magic, not harmful.

The case seems to go well, however Madisynn’s (who has unexpectedly become best friends with Wong) explanation doesn’t make it seem what Donny did was dangerous. Wong’s explanation, although valid, doesn’t sway the judge either.

The judge decides to reconvene and allows Donny to continue using magic in the meantime. This leads to him performing in front of a full house and accidentally opening a portal releasing demonic flying creatures.

Wong and She-Hulk manage to save the day as well as close the case with Donny Blaze. He agrees not to use the abilities he learned again.

Jennifer decides to take the plunge into the dating world by creating an online profile. Of course, Nikki immediately intervenes when she sees that Jennifer chose to use her professional business image.

She suggests that her friend create a profile as She-Hulk, but the idea is rejected. After Jennifer has one failed date she reconsiders.

Upon creating an account as She-Hulk she receives more matches and dates. Of course, the dates are all failures until one in particular.

Clearly attracted to him they continue the date at her home until Wong arrives requiring her help (see the Donny Blaze incident above). Her date actually waits for her to return and when she does, she decides to be assertive, literally carrying her date to her bedroom.

The next morning Jennifer looks pleasant, relaxed, and happy. That is until her date wakes up, startled by her appearance.

Jennifer reveals this is who she is outside of She-Hulk. Apparently unhappy by this, he leaves.

She is sad but casually shrugs it off.

Not long after he leaves Jennifer receives a knock on her door. She is disappointed to not see her date but someone delivering her a summons.

It turns out the superpowered influencer Titania, who we met in episode 1 for a brief moment, is suing Jennifer for using the name She-Hulk. This is confusing as that has been Jennifer’s superhero name ever since her Hulk secret was revealed.

But it seems Titania somehow copyrighted the name. Why?

How will Jennifer win this case? She doesn’t seem too worried which means we shouldn’t be either.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Season 1 Episode 4 review

The episode benefited from bringing Wong back, while also providing another example of the types of cases Jennifer will be handling in the Superhuman Law Division. Although I believe I mentioned this before, I am confused as to how judges in these cases, or people in general, are quick to be dismissive over the cases themselves.

Again, at this point, the Thanos snap already happened. By now, everyone knows who The Avengers are, that other worlds, creatures, and beings exist.

They’ve seen what literally happens if bad guys win or if no one takes warnings seriously. So how is it that the judge still doesn’t listen even after Wong’s clear and truthful statement about how dangerous Donny Blaze’s actions can be?

Aside from that I found it a little sad the way Jennifer shrugged off her date not wanting to be with her. It seems as though she used to this type of rejection.

It does remind us that many women who are confident, intelligent, hardworking, and actually have a personality are seen as overwhelming for men. Jennifer isn’t by any means superficial or cruel against men, or even boring as a person, yet men aren’t drawn to her.

Dennis rightfully so is a jerk and threatened by a woman who is better than him. That doesn’t make her undatable for calling him on it.

We hope that her luck will change as most superheroes don’t have the best track record when it comes to dating.
