Should The Walking Dead’s Lance Hornsby be spared?
We suppose the answer to our question really comes down to, who is the bigger threat currently on The Walking Dead? Is it Sebastian Milton or Lance Hornsby?
Season 11 episode 17 “Lockdown” jumped back and forth between the current predicament at The Commonwealth and Daryl, Maggie, Aaron, and Gabriel’s survival against Lance Hornsby. To briefly recap, Lance turned out to be untrustworthy as his true intentions were made clear.
He didn’t want to rebuild Alexandria for the people living there. He wanted to claim it, as well as The Hilltop and Oceanside.
The Hilltop is no more thanks to his involvement with Reaper Leah, but he does have his grips on Alexandria and Oceanside. His desire is to kill Daryl and the others as well as their loved ones back at The Commonwealth.
How big of a threat is Lance Hornsby compared to Sebastian Milton on The Walking Dead?
Sebastian Milton, Governor Pamela’s Milton son is a spoiled, rotten, brat; plain and simple. He’s been responsible for several Commonwealth townsfolk going missing and once word got out, the public wanted retribution.
The situation does not bode well for himself and his mother who is trying and possibly failing to keep the community intact. It hasn’t helped that part of the community already feels betrayed by her for their placement due to their previous lives and careers.
What is the resolution? Once Negan manages to tell Carol at The Commonwealth what has been happening with Hornsby, she decides to make a deal with Governor Milton.
She and Negan find Sebastian and bring him to his mother away from the rowdy crowd. People want justice, so Carol suggests they pin the blame on Hornsby in exchange for the safety of her friends and family.
We assume she’ll elaborate as to what Hornsby has been up as of late. Needless to say, Governor Milton will not be forgiving.
But was this the right call to make? Hornsby has proven to be quite charismatic and persuasive.
He even tricked Eugene, who is known to be gullible yet very intelligent. He made false claims to Aaron, who was trying with every inch of his life to keep Alexandria afloat.
Thankfully Maggie and Daryl were quick to see through the lies. Hornsby has a great following.
Perhaps not with the citizens of The Commonwealth but with the soldiers who continue to follow his orders even to their deaths. You’d think they’d have realized by now that he is the issue, not Daryl and the others.
In reality, Lance is the bigger threat than Sebastian. If they could find a way to get rid of him, then they can set their sights on Sebastian.
But arresting Hornsby won’t be enough. Does The Commonwealth have a death penalty?
We have yet to see for ourselves. The truth is, Hornsby needs to be killed if any of our heroes are to survive and live in peace in The Commonwealth.
This deal may be a quick fix for now but sooner or later he will become a bigger problem if he is not killed. We’re sure he’ll get his at some point, but will it be at the cost of a character we care for?
