The third and final season of BBC and HBO’s His Dark Materials is almost here. Based on the books by Philip Pullman, the series has brought viewers into not one but multiple worlds.

We follow the main character Lyra, her daemon Pan, and how the discovery of “dust” is changing everything she and others, especially The Magisterium, knew about their existence. Such revelations as other worlds existing goes against the core and strict beliefs of many, but it affects our world too.

As Lyra meets Will from our world, the two search for their fathers (for different reasons), while being pursued by Mrs. Coulter who wants the alethiometer Lyra carries. In the meantime, Witches prepare to deal with The Magisterium, nearly on the brink of war.

Several subplots occur throughout the compelling series but by the end of season 2, Will and Lyra become separated. She has been captured by Mrs. Coulter, who is revealed to be her mother and the angels make their first appearance to Lord Asriel, (Lyra’s father).

Season 3 is due to premiere this December, where we will finally meet the angels. Thankfully the His Dark Materials Twitter account shared first looks of the winged creatures as well as Lord Asriel with his daemon Stelmaria the snow leopard.

The angels, in plain terms, are “dust”. Lord Asriel wants to prove the existence of “dust” can open doorways to other worlds.

But will the angels prove to be friends or foes? When will Lyra find her father and when she does, will she still have the same hatred for him?

Will her mother take the alethiometer and use it herself? Will Lyra and Will be able to reunite?

We look forward to learning more about the final season during New York Comic-Con later this week!
