What happens when James kills a fly? Why he gets a whole episode dedicated to the ridiculous repercussions that follow on Oddballs season 1 episode 3 titled “Wanted Dead or Fly”.

Oddballs Season 1 Episode 3 recap – The Accidental Murder

The episode begins with James working out inside a prison cell. Before we can even wonder how this happened, he begins to explain.

James and Max meditate, well procrastinate, from doing homework. As they are, they receive multiple interruptions from James’ parents.

When a fly lands on James’ face he loses it and kills the fly with a book rather violently. At first Max is concerned about James’ murdering a fly.

But his friend explains that they are the bigger species. The fly is on their turf.

Things would be fine and dandy until they arrive at school the next day and find their teacher Mr. McFly crying at his desk. He’s worried because his grandmother never came home.

A search party has been sent to find her. Immediately James and Max panic believing they had killed Mr. McFly’s grandmother.

James takes the dead bug and buries it with a spoon in the middle of nowhere. Upon returning home he finds Max had killed more flies, who he believes were the search party.

As the two go to a local store to buy a shovel, they overhear Mr. McFly at the register. He is not happy at all about the situation.

He’s seen buying random, suspicious items which makes James and Max panic. After trying to look inconspicuous to the point of eating frozen yogurt at a local eatery, James and Max flee, screaming and yelling.

Oddballs Season 1 Episode 3 recap – Guilt

James returns home where the guilt begins to eat away at him. He’s having vivid hallucinations of flies everywhere before waking up.

When he does, he finds Mr. McFly at his house. James panics, trying and failing to stop his teacher from reaching his window.

When Mr. McFly arrives, the situation is explained. He is there to clean the house gutters.

This is one of his side jobs for extra money, most of which he’s saving for a cruise for his grandmother. Turns out she and his family had faked her disappearance and had a party without him.

James still comes clean about killing the fly to which Mr. McFly does not resent him for. Suddenly the police arrive to arrest James after Max turned him in.

James is sentenced to life in prison but only serves one day.

Oddballs Season 1 Episode 3 recap – Lesson Learned

Outside, waiting for him is Max. The two apologize when James kills a mosquito.

Max is worried but James reassures him it’s not a big deal. Well, it is, for a large swarm of mosquitos are present and chase the two.

Oddballs Season 1 Episode 3 review

This episode took a thriller, horror movie turn that I wasn’t expecting. Between the rain and thunderstorm ambiance to the often black and grey color schemes and James’ descent into madness over his guilt, it all comes together almost like an Alfred Hitchcock tale.

But for kids and families, obviously. I didn’t laugh as much as I had in the two episodes prior, but that is simply because I was curious how this was going to end.

There was going to be some sort of misunderstanding, but I couldn’t predict what kind we would see. I should have realized by now that it was going to be something silly.

Who honestly cleans the gutters of a home at night during a rain and thunderstorm? All in all, this was another interesting story to tell that may make viewers reconsider killing a fly or any insect for that matter.
