The She-Hulk: Attorney at Law season 1 finale “Whose Show Is This” took a more direct, fourth-wall-breaking turn while tying up some loose ends. Does it pay off?

Let’s find out!

Jennifer wakes up from a bizarre nightmare which depicts her story as a 1970’s cheesy, horror movie. Upon coming to, she is visited by her friends Pug, Nikki and Mallory in a jail cell similar to what once housed Abomination’s Emil Blonsky.

Jennifer ‘s transformation at the Gala did not go over well. She will be released on the terms that she can never transform into She-Hulk again.

She loses her job at the law firm and is forced to move back in with her parents. She and Nikki begin figuring out who got ahold of the sex tape she unwillingly and unknowingly made with Josh, but the process isn’t easy.

Nikki knows the only way to get answers is by investigating Intelligencia. With things going this bad she decides to stay at Emil’s retreat.

She seems to enjoy her overnight stay, hoping to speak with Emil but he’s at a meeting. The meeting winds up being on the retreat where all the men from Intelligencia are gathering in protest of not only Jennifer but women of any powerful nature.

Simply put; it’s a meeting for toxic and insecure males. Nikki is able to find the location and urges Pug to go in undercover.

It is there that he meets Todd, one of Jennifer’s one-time dates who seemed to have developed a bit of an obsession with her. Todd is the one behind Intelligencia, believing that Jennifer should have earned her powers as She-Hulk.

Clearly, he doesn’t understand anything about her because we all know she didn’t choose to be the green hero. As Jennifer arrives, finding not only her friends but Abomination himself present, Todd decides to inject Jennifer’s blood into himself.

As he becomes another Hulk before the crowd, Tatania and The Hulk show up and join the fray.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Season 1 Episode 9 recap – Taking Control

In the ensuing chaos, Jennifer makes the ultimate fourth wall break move and stops the episode. Unhappy with the direction the season finale is going she leaves her show via Disney Plus and finds herself at the Walt Disney Studios headquarters.

After speaking to the writers of the show she seeks Kevin, which we assume is Kevin Feige the President of Marvel Studios. Kevin turns out to be a robot who has been following the same Marvel algorithm to create She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

Jennifer speaks candidly about changes she’d like being made to the season finale including the return of Matt Murdock (I literally squealed). After teasing some upcoming Marvel projects, K.E.V.I.N agrees to make these changes.

This means Todd does not transform into another Hulk. He gets arrested and Jennifer makes a promise to see him in court.

This also includes Jennifer being able to transform into She-Hulk again and yes Daredevil arrives! Tatania is there, hoping to film She-Hulk murder Todd but alas Jennifer resorts to letting the law do its work.

The ending of the episode is honestly the best part. Jennifer can return to work where she can still be She-Hulk and begins officially (I hope) dating Matt Murdock.

He meets her family while staying in the area for a week. Everyone instantly takes a liking to him.

This may be the first family dinner Jennifer has ever truly enjoyed in her recent years. Her expression shows as much.

Matt is a little overwhelmed by her family until The Hulk arrives! But he’s not alone.

He reveals he has a son, Skaar. Who is Skaar?

When did this happen? What is going on?

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Season 1 Episode 9 review

I was surprised by the distaste for the season finale. Yes, it’s odd and seems to come completely out of nowhere, but does it?

The season had very few fourth wall breaks, which I assume was on purpose so that the season finale would be more effective. I thought it was a good thing to show how the ending of any Marvel project can immediately go off the deep end.

Why? For the sake of bringing together characters we haven’t seen much of, without any real logical reason to?

I think Jennifer taking back control of her show makes sense, it is her show. She should have some say in it.

The beauty of Marvel is that the world is constantly expanding and changing. Keeping to a formula makes the material stagnant.

Let She-Hulk have a different ending than expected. I am, (not surprisingly) over the moon that not only did they bring back Matt Murdock AKA: Daredevil but they insinuated that he and Jennifer are dating!

Seriously, Marvel, do not ruin this relationship like you ruin all the others. Just give us this one thing, please?!

The season finale did leave some things opened ended, like where did Josh go? Can other Hulks be made simply by a blood transfusion?

Is Titania still Jennifer’s enemy? I’m hoping to see She-Hulk in the upcoming Daredevil series Daredevil: Born Again.

Until then I’ll be keeping my eyes and ears open for any news about a season 2 or an upcoming film with our green hero!
