Afraid to offend his new friend Echo, James refuses to share his displeasure about her messy lifestyle. He must learn to speak up in Oddballs season 1 episode 7 “Behind Frenemy Lines”.

But what happens when he waits until the last second to say something? Let’s find out!

Oddballs Season 1 Episode 7 recap – Messy House Guest

James has allowed Echo to stay at the RV whenever she visits. However, he’ll soon regret this decision when he discovers the entire RV trashed.

Echo seems oblivious to the fact that she shouldn’t act or live like this. Afraid of offending her, James keeps his mouth shut and comes up with a plan.

He lies about the cactus, which holds up the RV, being a national treasure. Therefore, she can’t stay there anymore.

However, that just mean she stays with him and his parents instead. Naturally when she’s in the presence of his parents she is a kind and proper houseguest.

When James is present, she is the exact opposite.

Oddballs Season 1 Episode 7 recap – Problems Escalate

Throughout the episode James tries to do things alone with Echo interrupting at every turn. From watching TV to enjoying just one donut she’s unknowingly annoying him.

While all of this is going on, Max watches next door through his own homemade pair of binoculars. He’s enjoying the situation from afar as if it’s a TV show.

Where things really get bad is when James decides to dump all his stuff ensuring that Echo won’t be able to wreck anything. He lies, telling her he’ll be living as a minimalist.

However, when he awakes the next morning all his stuff now belongs to Echo, and she refuses to let him touch anything. Not only is this rude, considering how hospitable James has been, but it is the final straw.

James begins to lose his temper, making a mess of the room before finally coming clean.

Oddballs Season 1 Episode 7 recap – Telling the Truth

He calls Echo out for her bad behavior. She isn’t offended, explains how in the future being messy isn’t an issue and shows him how quickly she can clean up a mess.

She tells James that he just needs to be open and honest with her. Just when you think everything is resolved she disintegrates all his belongings to ensure that he keeps to him minimalist lifestyle.

Oddballs Season 1 Episode 7 review

Once again James has provided a very relatable story. There are some people who don’t mind saying things regardless of whom they are speaking with.

And then you have James who is trying to avoid the unavoidable awkward conversation. He doesn’t want to hurt Echo’s feelings, which is quite selfless by the way, but at the same time is miserable due to her behavior.

I was seriously waiting for his Housewives of Atlantis action figures to get destroyed. And I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that I was getting frustrated myself on James’ behalf.

The morale of the episode is to be open and honest with others, and true friends and loved ones will understand and try to do better. Echo is simply from a different time, so she truly didn’t know anything else.

It’s an honest misunderstanding that is resolved by at the cost of all of James’ stuff. Yikes.
