Derry Girls Season 3 Episode 6 recap – Aunt Sarah’s Engagement
It is no surprise by now that Aunt Sarah, Orla’s mother, is not the brightest lightbulb. This couldn’t have been proven more so than in this episode.
Mary, Gerry, and Grandpa Joe are stunned to receive an invitation to Sarah and Ciaran’s engagement party. Sarah seems completely clueless.
Upon explaining, it seems that Ciaran did propose to her with a beautiful ring but unfortunately, she does want to marry him. The household panics as Ciaran needs to know but Sarah is too afraid to tell him.
The task, not surprisingly, falls into Gerry’s lap. As Halloween night arrives, Ciaran comes over to talk to Gerry and Grandpa Joe about his engagement with Sarah.
Gerry tries to softly and calmly inform Ciaran of the misunderstanding when Sarah comes into the room dressed as a nun. Immediately Ciaran mistakes her garb as her decision to become a nun instead of assuming it to be a Halloween costume.
He leaves just as Mary enters the room dressed as a nun as well. These nun costumes are actually clothing that Sister Michael sold.

Derry Girls Season 3 Episode 6 review
One of the most brilliant aspects about Derry Girls is that it thrives in humor as well as reality. There are times where you will be laughing so hard you cry.
But sometimes you will cry over something sad and deeply relatable. The death of Clare’s father seemed completely out of the blue but that is what makes it work for a show like this.
Death is unpredictable. It can happen to anyone at any time, often without warning.
His death at the end of the episode was effective. Here you are, laughing at the craziness of the group trying to get Fatboy Slim tickets and the chaos at the concert.
But then you come down from that joy the moment you learn a character had died. Clare’s dad may not have been as popular a character as, let’s say, Erin’s dad, Gerry.
But it affects one of the main characters in Erin’s group of friends. Its affects Clare, the intelligent, uptight and surprisingly wacky friend. Life is short and it puts some major perspective for both the characters of the show and those watching at home.
