It has been a little while since we have seen the face of The Walking Dead star, Andrew Lincoln. The Rick Grimes actor said his episode “The Murmuring,” is going to be “the scariest” hour of television Netflix has ever seen.

The episode premiered on Netflix on October 28. The anthology series of Guillermo Del Toro’s, Cabinet of Curiosities is something Lincoln could not pass up.

He stars alongside The Babadook’s Essie Davis in this fantastic thriller directed by Jennifer Kent. Keeping things in the horror family is something sure to please all fans of The Walking Dead when they sit down and watch if they haven’t already.

The show consists of eight stories of dark and twisted horror. “The Murmuring” tells the story of mourning and loss.

What roles does Andrew Lincoln and Essie Davis play in Cabinet of Curiosities?

Lincoln and Davis play couple Edgar and Nancy Bradley. The chemistry between Davis and Lincoln is undeniable.

The characters find themselves in an isolated home to study birds by the harbor, but the house’s history holds heartbreak and horror. Lincoln’s character Edgar, an ornithologist professor, submerses himself into his study of birds after the traumatic death of his daughter a year ago.

The actor shared that he hopes what the audience can take from this is a way to cope and deal with tremendous loss. You get a beautiful story, horror and life lessons all wrapped into one.

"“Don’t Look Now, The Shining, they’re sort of essentially about loss and all trauma or relationships in crisis. They’ll never recover from the death of a child, no one does. But they can certainly try and live on and continue to love each other. Those are the overarching themes in this thing. That’s a really exciting area for actors to explore.” Andrew Lincoln told Tudum."

It also tells the story of a husband who is moving on from loss, and a wife who has not. It’s why Nancy is able to see the ghosts in the house and why Edgar cannot attain that feat.

He becomes noticeably frustrated with his wife’s obsession of the family who used to be there, and the ghosts she keeps seeing. Early on in the episode you can sense and see the divide between husband and wife.

The loss of a child is something you can never get over, and sadly wrecks relationships between two people even when it’s the only thing you have left. You have a husband trying to move on, and a wife who can’t even accept it or even cry about the loss of their child Ava.

Throughout the hour, Edgar tries to reignite the flame intimately with his wife. At first, she is incredibly against any kind of physical connection.

As time moves along, she does try but still is not ready. You can see Edgar and Nancy love each other very much but the pain is just too heavy.

Even though you will see Edgar put on some dance moves to try and swoon his beloved. The way in which he calls her “darling” makes my own heart swoon.

So much of Andrew Lincoln comes out in that scene and you can’t help but smile greatly. If you are a fan of The Walking Dead and shared all the memories of his time on the series, this will warm your heart.

We see Nancy hear a baby crying, to the sound of footsteps. Followed by door slams and strange happenings in the attic of the house.

While Edgar carries on with the bird fascination, Nancy carries on her fascination with what was in the house years before. And what happened to them.

She later learns through her own self that it’s a mother and child. When you watch this episode, you will see top of the line storytelling.

It’s easy to feel so much of Nancy’s pain as you watch her connect to the story in the house of the past. You also see her speak to the caretaker of the home about the things she is witnessing.

In a very stern way, the caretaker tells her that this is a mere morbid fascination for her. That you see what you want to see in this house.

As time goes on you start to realize that as scary as it is, maybe she needed to see those things all along. The ending is what sets this episode apart from the others of Cabinet of Curiosities.

The ghost of the young boy appears in the shadows. Nancy tells him to come into the light.

Though she could not help her own child, she does help the spirit of the little boy pass over into the light. This gives the story such a beautiful ending and, in a way, honors her daughter.

And in a poetic fashion she comes into the light and out of the darkness as well. At the very hand she calls Edward and apologies over and over for being so lost.

She tells him she loves him and knows it’s time to talk about Ava. She is now ready.

They truly saved the best for last in this wonderful anthology series by Guillermo Del Toro. Andew Lincoln brought incredible beautifully done acting and Essie Davis brought an emotional heart-wrenching performance that catapulted this episode to the top.
