As series finale for The Walking Dead draws ever closer, excitement for The Walking Dead: Dead City seems to heighten. The spinoff centering around Negan and Maggie is due to arrive to AMC in April 2023.

The show, which began filming in late July under the name Isle of the Dead, recently wrapped in late October where a majority, if not all of the scenes, were filmed in New Jersey. Previously I had covered what I’ve seen firsthand as I stood by the sidelines, trying to absorb the magic and hard work that goes into filming a television show.

I am grateful to say that I had a few more opportunities to watch filming for Dead City before it wrapped. Throughout my latter experiences, I had seen Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan) more often than Lauren Cohan (Maggie).

Truth be told, I thought it was going to be the other way around. But regrettably, I did not meet either actor to the point of a formal handshake and words of gratitude for everything that they continue to do for The Walking Dead and the fanbase.

What was revealed during filming for The Walking Dead: Dead City?

Good news is I was able to see another set up close, as well as walkers! Walkers, walkers, walkers, most who waved and smiled while I and one of my closest and best friends watched from the sidelines.

There were other unfamiliar faces that gave off the impression they’d play big roles in the spinoff. One in particular, who seemed to notice us watching I might add.

Not to mention, the appearance of Scott M. Gimble. Looking back, I assumed he must have been checking on how filming was going, as barely even a week or so later, filming had concluded.

One aspect of filming overall that I did not mention last time was how often Jeffrey and Maggie were filming scenes away from each other. I’d see or hear Jeffrey was filming a scene, then he’d leave, then Lauren’s scene would begin filming.

As this became more of a frequent occurrence, especially upon my last chance to watch filming, I was beginning to wonder. Either the two will be separated during the end of this spinoff, or they would be having deeper connections or conversations with other characters.

Keep in mind, as far as I and others know, there has not been any sightings or reveals of other TWDU characters in this spinoff, only new characters. From the last few times I was able to watch filming I could gather that there would be some intense, nearly anxiety inducing scenarios where walkers would be giving both characters a run for their money.

I do not know if Dead City will indeed have a season 2, and if they do, where filming will take place next. What I do know if that these were some of the best memories I could have ever made.

I am and will always remain grateful to have seen as much filming as I did. To have had multiple chances to wave and say hello to Jeffrey to Lauren, who as dedicated to their work as they are, still take a moment to be friendly and acknowledge fans.

I eagerly await Dead City, ready to pinpoint where scenes were filmed and which filming sets I was on (I seriously cannot wait for that)! From my own experience and what I’ve heard, I believe the hype.

Dead City will blow everyone’s expectations out of the water!
