What happens when you combine outer space, aliens, and Kevin Bacon together? You get the creative, unique, and memorable holiday special, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Now streaming on Disney Plus, the holiday special brings The Guardians of the Galaxy team together for a holiday special unlike any fans have seen before. Peter Quill AKA: Star-Lord and leader of the group, hasn’t been the same since he lost Gamora.

When Mantis learns she is Peter’s sister, well half-sister as the two share the same psychotic father Ego, she wants to find a way to make him happy. She learns that on Earth, where Peter is from, people are celebrating Christmas.

Peter hadn’t had a nice Christmas since Yondu destroyed any trace of one when Peter was a kid. This of course isn’t true, as Yondu changes his mind and gifts Peter his blasters in private.

How will Mantis and Drax bring Christmas to Peter in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special?

But that still doesn’t explain why they don’t celebrate Christmas again after that… Never mind, moving on.

Together, Mantis and Drax, venture to Earth to bring Kevin Bacon to Peter as a Christmas present. The two however have no idea where to find him.

After making money posing with tourists in Hollywood and spending it all in a bar that evening, they still haven’t made any progress. That is until a woman selling maps to famous stars’ homes comes to their aid.

Mantis and Drax arrive to Kevin Bacon’s home and after a hilarious chase around his house and awkward police encounter, they manage to capture the famous actor. Mantis uses her powers to keep him calm, but their problems arise again when it is revealed that Kevin Bacon isn’t a real-life hero.

He’s an actor! Oh, the horror!

Worried that they ruined Peter’s Christmas, Mantis uses her powers again to have Kevin Bacon pretend to be an actual hero. After decorating the area the group is currently residing in with lights and decorations, Peter is horrified to see Kevin Bacon.

He asks Mantis and Drax to wake him up and bring him back home. Kevin Bacon changes his mind about going home right away, choosing to make Peter’s Christmas special after hearing about his past.

In the end, Peter is thankful for the Christmas celebration and becomes overjoyed upon Mantis telling him that she is his sister. Overall, this was a strange holiday special but that is to be expected when it is The Guardians of the Galaxy.

Aliens and environments aren’t all that pleasing to look at, but they are different. Which says a lot considering science fiction is nearly everywhere and coming up with something people haven’t seen before can be difficult.

The holiday decor was top notch and truly made you want to experience it for yourself firsthand. While other characters like Rocket, Groot and Nebula were not in the holiday special for very long, they still added to the story and were a joy to see.

If you are looking to watch something to put you in the Christmas mood that isn’t your run-of-the-mill Christmas film or holiday special, give The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special a try!
