Star Wars has a very extensive legacy and like most tales that transcend all forms of media, there are bound to be issues. Some are minor and others are a little more obvious.

One of the biggest issues that seems to plague Star Wars, is the inconsistency of death. Sometimes you die from a broken heart and other times you somehow survive a literal explosion in space.

Sometimes you die by a lightsaber, other times you are literally cut in half by a lightsaber and manage to return to life. These death issues seem to play bigger recent roles in two Disney Plus Star Wars shows; The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Bounty hunter, mercenary and assassin Fennec Shand came to life in The Mandalorian season 1 chapter 5 “The Gunslinger”. She was quick witted and impeccably strong; however, she is taken down by Din Djarin and wannabe bounty hunter Toro Calican.

What are the rules when it comes to death in the Star Wars universe?

After mistakenly trying to get Toro to aid her in taking down Mando for a higher reward, he shoots and kills her. By the end of the episode a mysterious figure finds her.

This mysterious figure would later be revealed to be Boba Fett who survived the Sarlacc pit. In his spinoff, The Book of Boba Fett, we learn how he saves Fennec’s life by taking her to a man who adds droid tech to his customers.

Thanks to some handywork Fennec lives, forever in Boba Fett’s debt. How?

How was she saved, wasn’t the shot from Toro’s blaster a killing shot? She was dead in the desert, but somehow some droid tech brings her back to life.

Yet Mando was able to kill Toro with one shot from his weapon. Toro is absolutely dead, but Fennec lives.

This issue gets incredibly worse once we reach the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Kenobi’s efforts to remain in hiding from Darth Vader fail when Inquisitor Third Sister Reva discovers he’s still alive.

Reva’s story, simply put is that she was a youngling at the Jedi temple when Order 66 is initiated. She and her fellow Jedi-in-training younglings try to escape; however, Anakin finds and slaughters them.

Yet somehow, she survives. She becomes an Inquisitor with the intent of finding Kenobi so she can get close enough to Darth Vader and enact her revenge.

When the time finally comes and she does face off against Vader, he easily overpowers her and gives her a killing blow with his lightsaber. And yet, she doesn’t die.

How? The blow she received is practically the same as Qui-Gon Jinn’s from The Phantom Menace yet he dies, and she lives?

This is the glaring issue Star Wars is repeatedly having with no resolve. I guess we can chalk it up to, characters live and die depending on if they are needed or not in future Star Wars projects.

For some, this isn’t a problem as it saves the lives of characters they love. I am guilty of this as I was most relieved to see Cobb Vanth may still be alive.

However, for the most part, this issue needs to be addressed, explained and resolved because at this point, it is just getting silly.
