Season 5 episode 6, “Cigarettes, Whiskey, A Meadow and You”, starts out in one of the most beautiful backgrounds we have seen in Yellowstone. The cinematography is impeccable.

John, Rip, and Beth are overlooking the beauty of Montana. John feels like there is nothing more serene in the world, while Beth does what she does and kills the joy for her old man.

They see it every day, this is simply another angle. Beth turns to Rip and says give her a meadow, a lake, and a stream that nobody knows about but me.

That is her kind of beauty, something untouched and unbothered by anybody else before. She doesn’t like to share the things that she finds beautiful.

Rip knew exactly what she means. He may be rough on the edges but deep down he’s a sensitive and romantic man at heart.

Especially with what he said next uttering these words back to her:

"”Every time I look at you, I know exactly what you mean.”"

Meanwhile back at Mo’s place, the walls inside his house began shaking as if there were a massive earthquake going on. Up ahead military helicopters are flying overhead.

However, there is no military training that goes on there. So, he drives out quickly to investigate.

As soon as he gets to the reservation it’s clear something is being set up that he wasn’t privy to. Armed men are surrounding the place.

Mo may be the lieutenant for the tribal police in charge of security for the Chairman, but these men don’t seem to be too impressed with the title. Rainwater also knows nothing of what is taking place.

It looks like a presidential detail. Mo completely losses it when they begin shooting stray dogs.

Though this is Montana and dogs roam around, he knew they were someone’s pets. It was the one part of the show that was the hardest to watch.

We’ve seen a lot of animal deaths but that was senseless and too brutal. It becomes obvious that the President is coming.

But no event of this magnitude is supposed to be okayed without the office of the Chairman of the Confederated Nations. The saga of Jamie and Sarah is far from over.

She is keeping Jamie warm in his bed and becomes offended when he starts to question her presence there. He thinks there has to be some sort of ulterior motive as he doesn’t see himself as a catch.

You can see the woman’s severe annoyance with him now. Jamie doesn’t believe his appeal as a man is very high and it doesn’t add up.

Sarah thinks quite the opposite. He is a gifted lawyer and a Harvard graduate.

Regardless of him being childish and insecure, she loves being with him because she wants to. she does not want to further her career or get something selfish out of it.

Ms. Atwood thinks they can both get something to gain out of it. She wants to get him elected as Governor and in return, she wants him to reinstate the lease without an option to wiggle out of this time.

Jamie agrees that if she does, he will give her, her airport. But four years is a long time and they both want it sooner.

What lengths will they go to get it?

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 6 Recap: More bonus points for Monica?

Monica and Summer share some bonding time at the ranch. Good or bad bonding?

You’ll have to be the judge. Everyone on the ranch is getting ready for the big branding.

Monica is warm to her, well as warm as anyone on the ranch as ever been and spread some honey on her hell-on-wheels Beth wounds. If anyone knows what it feels like to be the unwanted outcast of the Dutton family, it’s Monica.

But as tough as Beth can be even with the daddy issues everyone knows she has, Monica surprisingly defends her to Summer. She reveals that she was not the pretty blonde bombshell that was pictured for Kayce.

He was the heir to the ranch and now the heir doesn’t want it. Beth could hate her for it, but she has defended her over and over, as family always does.

She knows Monica loves her brother and she’s not a threat to the ranch. Summer still isn’t sure what this place represents.

It’s rare to see Monica defend this place but she tells her that it doesn’t need to represent anything. It looks the same as it did a century ago, and it will look the same many, many centuries from now.

One of the best lines of the show happens next, and it’s a smooth burn by Monica of all people. Summer complains that everywhere she goes she gets a lecture.

To which she was told well now you know what it feels like. Against my wishes Monica keeps redeeming herself every episode this season.

The writers have really taken in account how disliked the character has been for seasons. Cowboying is still in session.

The cattle march is on, and Beth is having herself a ball. It is really refreshing to see her outside of boardrooms and fighting broads to being free on a horse, where a true cowgirl belongs.

The scenery in this episode is purely brilliant. And gives great imagery of the very thing that John and other ranchers like himself are trying to protect from big business.

There’s a reason why this land has lasted so long, and they have to preserve that. Carter and Tate are having their own fun and couldn’t be happier to learn and to help.

Kayce and Beth look on like the proud parents they are and grin at each other. Being that they are the two Dutton’s left to carry on the name and future generations of the family, it was an alluring scene to watch.

What they have, and what more could become. Back at the reservation, we find out that Angela is the one behind the events.

Thomas Rainwater, now present, tries to put a stop to this or at least get some answers. As the director of Native American Affairs for the President she doesn’t need his permission to assemble.

The President is coming and is going to endorse Martin, the leader she wants. Though blindsided by it, Rainwater wasn’t going to leave.

His absence would cause far greater talk. He’s not a trusting man after the pipeline incident when Obama was in office.

If Biden gave him his endorsement, he would give it right back he tells Angela.

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 6 Recap: “Cigarettes, Whiskey, A Meadow, And You.”

Rip takes Beth on a little excursion to a place he found a year ago. Beth had once said she wanted to be married in a place with no memories.

Their wedding however took a different turn. Beth thought she was going to jail so it was a rushed ceremony.

He shows her a beautiful untouched meadow and asks, “Is this more your kind of beautiful?” Beth jumps off her horse glancing around at the picturesque view.

A meadow, even a stream, overlooking the gorgeous mountains behind it. Rip, to her, a man of perfection even pulling out a whiskey flask for them.

They relax by a tree, taking it all in. Beth saying all she needs now is a cigarette, which the perfect man of hers has too.

"“I could do this. I could live here and never see another person in my whole life except you.”"

Rip teases a little that that would be hard in the winter, but I personally live for all these romantic lines between the two every episode. It gives us all hope for love out there.

For Beth, she doesn’t need anything else but a cigarette, whiskey, a meadow, and Rip. The three things that make her feel good, and a perfect meadow.

Their love grows deeper as the sun sets.

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 6 Recap: Legends never die

John and Emmett shared their own near perfect day as cowboy and men. They relax back looking up at the sky.

“Governor of Montana, on a side of a mountain sleeping with his boots. This world may have a chance yet.” Emmet expresses that with John in charge, there’s a fighting chance for them all.

Emmett falls asleep fast with a smile on his face. He’s snoring loudly but John couldn’t even be mad about it.

Just as the sun arises the old cowboy does not. John finds him but he refuses to be sad about it.

His buddy went out like an old cowboy should. Dying on the trail like every cowboy dreams about.

"“Well Emmett I couldn’t have dreamed up a better death if you paid me. You sure earned it old friend.”"

John stays with his long-time pal until a chopper arrives for him. The branding festivities continue on the ranch with camera crews and reporters.

Monica is awaiting nervously. Finally the cattle come up.

John is on his way to hurry back to Emmett’s wife to give her the news first.

"“Ain’t a bad way to go.”-Rip to John"

"”There’s none better.”-John to Rip on Emmett’s passing."

The next moment was one of the all-time heartbreaking ones of the series. Though he went in a bittersweet way, I couldn’t help but feel for Emmett’s wife.

John comes up upon her and it was only seconds until she got emotional knowing he was gone. She asks him how he went.

“Like a cowboy should. Head resting against the saddle, staring at the stars,” John tells her as she falls into tears and cries. Unbeknownst to John, the news crew got all of the scene.

You see a real moment from John and the real man he is. The branding now begins.

Even Carter gets in some good work. John still has yet to understand Teeter.

I’m down for a full bottle episode of John and her getting to know each other and for John to become fluent in Teeter Talk. Lynelle and Summer finally see each other in the same vicinity.

Both a little jealous of the other. Lynelle tells him what he’s doing is highly unprofessional, for most it’s career suicide but he keeps getting away with things.

She tells him she should go see the President when he comes to Helena, but he maintains his refusal. He has calves to brand.

Summer and John have a moment at the end. Though I can’t say if it’s good or bad.

She agrees, there are parts of the whole thing that were beautiful, and parts that were heartbreaking. You can tell she is starting to understand things more.

Lainey Wilson’s performance as Abby was amazing in this episode. Walker even came on stage to give her a break so Abby and Ryan could have a dance.

Even Carter got his first dance. John asks Summer for a dance, but she turns him town and with jealous snark told him to go dance with his milf senator.

He laughs and says for once he’d like to have some simplicity in his life. She told him to find himself a simple woman then and stop sending 70 mixed signals.

Lynelle is definitely more John’s style. I think it’s why fans like them together better.

Is she the one? Probably not but that’s not what John’s looking for.

But it’s nice to see him with a no-nonsense woman of class. The back and forth between her and Summer leaves much to be desired.

Lynelle is too good of a woman to be in battle of the likes of Summer. Unlike Summer though, Lynelle is annoyed with him because he only came back because Summer said no.

But she dances with him anyway.

"“I wish there were two of you John because I would actually marry the one that’s less charming and more sensible.”"

Though she is now seeing another politician, it never seems over between these two. Catch an all-new episode of Yellowstone next Sunday December 18, at 8 PM EST on Paramount Networks.
