The White Lotus is a show that tied up most of its loose ends from season 1. HBO originally picked it up as a six-part limited series, then renewed it for a second season, which just ended.

Despite a mostly different set of characters, the show delivered on the difficult task of matching the first season’s success. Now, season 3 is on the way, and creator Mike White will have to come up with new ideas for his beloved series.

He alluded to what is ahead in a recent post-finale analysis of season 2:

"“I think the third season, it would be maybe a kind of satirical and funny look at death and eastern religion and spirituality-it feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”"

Eastern religion and spirituality are certainly a lot to ponder. Will he be focusing on Hinduism in a country such as India?

What can fans expect from The White Lotus season 3?

Or maybe Shintoism in a country like Japan. There is a bevy of different eastern religions, many of which are prominent across areas of Asia and in other parts of the world.

White speculating on his focus on eastern religion and spirituality isn’t exactly narrowing anything down. It should be pointed out that not all of White’s predictions for his show have come true over the years.

White told Entertainment Weekly he originally planned for season 2 to be “like a Bilderberg conference, more about getting into some of the bigger power dynamics there.” So, he could always change his plans for season 3.

Not only did White give insight into where the next season could be, he also elaborated on a possible plot line. White said, “I think as far as what happens with Greg and the conspiracy of Tanya’s death, it’s possible that I think Portia is scared enough to just leave it alone, but the fact that all those guys die on the boat, it feels like there’s got to be somebody who’s gonna track it back down to Greg.”

With that, we could be seeing Greg make a return to season 3 of The White Lotus, only to have his alleged plan involving the murder of his wife slowly unravel before him. That would be an enticing choice.

No matter what happens, though — given the formula and White’s writing — I’m going to be tuning in.
