Believe it or not, 2022 was a stellar year for TV shows for nearly every network and streaming platform. While some series came to a conclusion, others were just starting off with the first season.

Before we welcome 2023 with open arms, we wanted to share out top 5 picks for TV shows of the year that you need to binge-watch! Listed in no particular order, let’s begin!

5. Moon Knight (Disney Plus)

The MCU has taken a rather different approach as of late, introducing several new superheroes and villains mostly through TV shows airing on Disney Plus. After watching them all over the course of the year, only one truly stood out and blew all of our expectations out of the water.

Moon Knight tells the story of timid and soft-spoken Steven Grant who works at a museum, mostly in the kiosks of the Ancient Egyptian exhibit. His ordinary life suddenly becomes chaotic when he starts losing consciousness, noticing things moved about in his home and being mistaken for someone named Marc.

Add to it, Ancient Egyptian deities, a mysterious man with a cult, and you have a thriller unlike any we’ve seen before! Moon Knight currently has one season, with the status of season 2 remaining a mystery.

The several twists and turns that follow this origin story of an anti-hero turned hero made it worthy of being on our list!

4. The Walking Dead (AMC)

The Walking Dead concluded this year with 11 seasons! What started as one man waking up in a hospital to a walker (zombie) apocalypse searching for his family, to several groups and communities trying to survive the undead and each other, has truly changed storytelling and television viewing forever.

The unpredictability and raw nature of the show kept viewers interested season after season. Who will live?

Who will perish? Is there a cure?

How did this all start? Add to those questions, fantastic character developments, dark yet often intriguing imagery, and a story unlike we’ve heard before and you have a show that will continue onward through several spinoffs in the coming year.

We look forward to watching the universe of The Walking Dead expand.

3. The Boys (Amazon Prime Video)

The Boys season 3 aired this year, introducing several new supes, and all the drama you could possibly want with it! Unfortunately for the thousands of innocents living in the world, not all supes are the heroic and role model type that we’d come to expect.

Sometimes they do terrible, horrific, and unspeakable things just because they can. Thankfully we have “The Boys” who are willing to stop these crazed supes, although this time by turning the tables and obtaining temporary powers of their own.

Unsurprisingly, not everything goes to plan, and the season ends on a rather eerie note. But season 4 is right around the corner!

New faces will be joining the cast, some whose roles remain a current mystery. This Amazon Prime Video series is often dark, violent, and graphic but if you can handle it and follow along for the wild ride, try binge watching all three seasons before 2023!

2. House of the Dragon (HBO)

For 8 seasons Game of Thrones reigned on HBO, combining all the things people love about fantasy and historical fiction: especially war and familial drama. It’s no wonder that such a rich world, coming to life from writer George R. R. Martin’s books, would have a spinoff.

House of the Dragon was an instant success, regardless of the several time jumps and cast changes. The spinoff focuses mostly on a core group of characters, the great ancestors of House Targaryen in particular, and their struggle against each other over who will claim the throne once King Viserys I Targaryen dies.

At times the plot can be complicated, as so many characters have or had intimate relationships with each other, resulting in a lot of heirs running around. But if you loved Game of Thrones and can handle the brutality and sometimes questionable motives and actions of the characters, then give House of the Dragon a watch.

You may be surprised.

1. Stranger Things (Netflix)

After waiting what felt like an eternity, Stranger Things returned with season 4 to Netflix. And boy was the wait worth it!

Not only are we introduced to a very monstrous and gruesome new enemy straight from the Upside Down, but we also get a look into Eleven’s past at Hawkin’s lab, discover Hopper’s whereabouts, and learn how the opening to the Upside Down came to exist in the first place.

As the cast becomes deeply intertwined with the new villain, audiences get to watch them grow and begin to settle into their ever-changing lives, such as finding their place in high school or how to maneuver relationships. Season 4 introduces a few new characters while bringing back some old favorites.

Season 5 will be the last season of Stranger Things, which makes it all the more worthy of being on our list and why it is a must watch!
