What was supposed to be a planned heist for a pendant, turns into a night of unexpected twists. In Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight season 2 episode 2 “One Last Job”, the group tries to steal the pendant while Klaus and Veruca discover who might be the owner of the helmet.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 2 Episode 2 recap – The Heist

Thea informs the group that Jayesh, the royal elephant they briefly met the episode prior, has the pendant under lock and key with several cobra guards. But the group is in luck because that evening, Jayesh is having an engagement party.

Even though the monkey thief rather do everything on her own, Po’s dad is the lookout, while Wandering Blade will fit in with high society and charm Jayesh so that the pendant can be stolen. Po, unfortunately, is told to hang back and eat.

After the group successfully enters the engagement party, the monkey thief cannot control her urge to steal. This means she misses the opportunity to follow Jayesh inside the palace.

Thankfully Wandering Blade follows him inside and immediately bonds with him over her honesty (well to a degree anyway). While she is doing so Po catches up, attempting to grab the keys to the locked room.

He is finally successful and manages to maneuver the room filled with a bell rigged red string trap system. At this point, the monkey thief finally catches up and becomes impressed by Po’s skills.

Even Wandering Blade surprises her, by acting as more than just the muscle.

With the pendant in hand, the group attempts to leave when the monkey thief notices Thea’s daughter with Jayesh. Before she can react, she sees Thea behind them carrying a tower of gifts.

Turns out Thea’s daughter is Jayesh’s fiancé. Thea, acting as though she doesn’t know them, literally set them up to fail, while also ensuring that Jayesh can trust her.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 2 Episode 2 recap – The Return of the Mages

Meanwhile Klaus and Veruca wake up to find night has fallen and their ship is stuck high in a tree. As they try to figure out what to do, masked bandits quickly attack and steal all of their supplies.

Veruca uses her powers, thanks to the moon, and is able to get both of them down. They are curious who the owner of the helmet could be.

The mystery as to what is going on is partially solved, when they spot another masked bandit. It turns out to be Nigel, a fellow Mage.

It looks like the Mages survived and have been hiding at this island which is great news…or is it?

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 2 Episode 2 review

Season 2 episode 2 was a thrilling tale from start to finish. I was actually surprised Thea wound up betraying the group, however, I also expected the heist wasn’t going to be successful either.

This episode, while also a side quest, helped audiences to learn even more about the core group of Po, Wandering Blade, Po’s father and the monkey thief. It also reminded audiences that you cannot judge a book by its cover, as Wandering Blade excelled at being a charming, high society citizen and Po surpassed the pendant trap easily.

Meanwhile, the monkey thief, who is supposed to be the most important part of the heist, nearly failed because she couldn’t resist stealing from party guests. I did find it particularly interesting that everyone still doubts Po’s abilities when he is, at this point in the Kung Fu Panda lore, a Dragon Master.

But what really threw me through a loop was Veruca’s reaction to seeing that the other Mages survived. She did not look happy at all.

Is it because they have the helmet and she’ll even go as far as harm them for it? Or is it because she got used to being the only Mage for so long, that she doesn’t want to share the one thing that makes her stand out?
