Is Veruca willing to betray the Mages for the helmet? Her decision isn’t the only one at stake in Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight season 2 episode 3, “Doom and Groom”.

Jayesh’s wedding is about to begin meaning Po and the group must figure out how to obtain Master Mastodon’s pendant. But is the mission worth the risk of someone’s life?

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 2 Episode 3 recap – The Wedding

Now that Po, his father, Wandering Blade, and the monkey thief whose name is Rukmini are captured, Thea can have her daughter and Jayesh get married. However, the couple is pressured to get married that same day.

While Rukmini is tied up away from the group, where she can be questioned later about the whip, Po, his father and Wandering Blade are locked in the room the pendant was once kept in. After finding a way out through the sewer, the trio are able to watch the wedding preparations.

Po and Wandering Blade attempt to distract Jayesh and the rest of the guests, enabling Po’s father to swoop down and swipe the pendant. As Po and Wandering Blade take on the cobra guards, Thea tries to rush the wedding.

Rukmini escapes but winds up aiding the group in the fight. As much as she’s angry for being betrayed by her former frenemy, she still informs Thea that Jayesh plans to take everything once he marries her daughter.

Thea already knows and doesn’t seem to care.

The group is running out of time and before they know it, the wedding unfortunately takes place. Is it too late for the group?

Po’s father attempts to grab the pendant but misses, causing it to shatter onto the ground. In a very out of place, horrifying moment, the pieces begin to glow, and the spirit of Master Mastodon is released.

He possesses Po’s unsuspecting father, complete with glowing eyes, violent tendencies and did we mention flying through the air.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 2 Episode 3 recap – The Helmet

Nigel reveals the home of the Mages, “New England”, where everyone lives up in the trees with one giant ship perched at the top. Klaus is thrilled to see that the Mages managed to escape and survive, however Veruca is less than thrilled.

Once Veruca was arrested, the Mages assumed Klaus was dead. They fled via boat and were on the water until the helmet brought them to the island.

However, nothing grew on the island. Thankfully the helmet enabled them to draw in more ships that they were able to raid and survive off of.

As much as this news pleases Klaus, Veruca is purely focused on the helmet. To their surprise the wearer of the helmet is Kyle, the naked mole rat and the new Arch Mage.

This angers Veruca greatly as she was once the Arch Mage. Not to mention she was locked away for 15 years before Klaus finally found her.

None of the other Mages attempted to find or release her. Veruca desires the helmet and doesn’t care about the Mages in the slightest.

But Kyle is not ready or willing to give up the helmet.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight Season 2 Episode 3 review

Well, this episode took a dark turn I was not expecting. Nor was I expecting it to be as dark as it was.

I will say season 2 is certainly keeping me on my toes. I understand the show is made and gauged for kids, but the possession scene was a little much…let’s say.

I didn’t think the show would make it that terrifying, especially considering the episode ends with Po’s possessed father about to violently attack the group. If that wasn’t dark enough, it looks like Veruca is about to draw the line in the sand.

She is going to choose obtaining the helmet over the Mages. There is no doubt about it.

Sadly, this will put Klaus in a tough position and I’m wondering if by the end of the season he’ll betray her, because it’s obvious that he’s not liking the person she’s becoming. Veruca’s anger is understandable but is she really going to betray her people?
