Severance leads Adam Scott and Patricia Arquette garner nods at CCA Super Awards

Severance leads Adam Scott and Patricia Arquette, who have both been nominated for their thespian work on the Apple TV+ series, with a nomination each. The 3rd Annual Critics Choice Super Awards nominations are for Best Actor in a Science Fiction/Fantasy Series, Limited Series or Made-For-TV Movie for Adam Scott; and Best Actress in a Science Fiction/Fantasy Series, Limited Series or Made-For-TV Movie for Patricia Arquette.

Last January, the series became one of the most-nominated shows for 2022’s Writers Guild of America Awards. It also landed two Directors Guild of America (DGA) Award nominations.

That’s aside from winning two Emmys at last year’s awards run. The CCA Super Awards, only on its third ever event installment, honors, “Superhero, Science Fiction/Fantasy, Horror, and Action” movies and television series.

What is the Apple TV+ series Severance about?

Severance has garnered a cult following with how it’s become one of the most bleakly themed, yet well-executed series on any streaming platform. Its premise of work life and personal life being completely separated through the corporate “severance” program, echoes how the manipulative effects of cutting-edge, yet invasive technology, can dramatically change literal work-life balance.

Some of which hit very close to how current practices in some companies are being carried out in the name of better productivity. Scott’s character Mark, is the leads of one such team of “severed” office workers at the corporate monolith, Lumon Industries.

Patricia Arquette plays Harmony Cobel, Mark’s boss. Cobel struggles to keep Mark’s team, and all the teams under her management, productive, while policing their memories and actions outside company premises as per the rules of the surgically divided work-life system.

Scott is against some pretty big name, fan favorites in the Best Actor category, such as Diego Luna from Andor and Matt Smith from House of the Dragon. Arquette meanwhile, is the betting favorite among young names in the Best Actress field, alongside women like Milly Alcock from House of the Dragon and Morfydd Clark from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
