While Din and Bo-Katan handle some Imperial ships, Dr. Pershing gets acquainted with life following the Empire in episode 3 of The Mandalorian season 3.

Catch up here on everything from the last episode!

The third episode begins where the second ended, with Din Djarin, Bo-Katan Kryze, and Grogu shook up following Din’s bath in the Living Waters. Mando is relieved that he is reborn as a Mandalorian, with Bo-Katan confirming this.

After Bo deduces that the river is deeper due to the infamous purge, the former leader of Mandalore asks Din if he saw anything alive down there, alluding to the Mythosaur she witnessed. Din explains he did not see anything, so Bo-Katan drops it and the three of them return to her castle.

The Mandalorian season 3 episode 3: Bo-Katan’s home gets hit hard

On their voyage back to Bo’s home planet of Kalevala, their ship is attacked by a squad of TIE Interceptors. Bo-Katan helms the ship with Din manning the guns, as they arrive on the planet home to House Kryze.

The two Mandalorians agree to make “a transfer” which entails Din jumping out of Bo’s ship so he can use his jetpack to get into his own. Bo-Katan and Din Djarin take on the squad of TIE Interceptors in a dogfight.

They were initially separated, but when the two team up to take on the Imperial ships, is when they really find success and defeat all of the enemies. On their way back to Bo’s castle, however, they notice two more ships off in the distance.

These are not interceptors but rather TIE Bombers and these ships are doing their primary function to destroy the home of Bo-Katan Kryze. Understandably, she chases down the bombers, only for Din Djarin to stop her since there are way more TIE Bombers than Mandalorians at the present moment.

After finally convincing her to retreat for the time being, Din Djarin sends Bo coordinates for a hyperjump, and they escape from the Imperial ships.

The Mandalorian season 3 episode 3: Life on Coruscant after the Empire

On Coruscant, the man who was formerly working for the Empire, Dr. Pershing, is seen giving a speech to the people of the New Republic in a packed theater. He explains how he had no choice but to work for the Empire since they were the superpower.

Pershing talks about the cloning research he did for the Empire and how those evil people used it for their own selfish intentions. The possibly reformed doctor goes on to explain he is using Kaminoan research to help the medical field with procedures like organ transplants.

Following his speech, the rich and ignorant of the capital planet implicitly express how out of touch they are while welcoming Dr. Pershing into their community. Pershing looks to be uncomfortable, while the elite tells him how lucky they are for him to be working for a proper government now.

The Mandalorian season 3 episode 3: Pershing adjusts to his new life

Dr. Pershing is making his voyage home, which is located in Amnesty Housing. As he walks into the housing complex for former Imperial officers and workers, he finds a group of “Amnesty Officers”, who all have names that are three-digit combinations of a letter and two numbers.

The last one to be introduced, is the same officer who helped him before they were both rehabilitated for the New Republic. It turns out this officer worked for Moff Gideon, like Pershing, and they all share theories about what happened to him.

This is quickly disregarded, since they have all been reintegrated to forget about the Empire. The five of them reminisce about the little things from the time of the Empire.

One officer likes the old uniforms, one misses the views from traveling space, and Dr. Pershing misses the yellow biscuits from their ration packs, (the officer Pershing knows likes the red ones better). In his apartment, Dr. Pershing is learning about Coruscant, when a knock is heard on his door.

He goes to investigate and finds nobody is there. A box is on the floor, filled with the yellow biscuits from the rations.

At work, Dr. Pershing is responsible for archiving data, a massive step down from his position as a researcher that he had for the Empire. This job appears to be too much since a colleague tries talking to the Amnesty Scientist but Pershing has too much data to archive.

Taking her up on her offer, Dr. Pershing and the familiar Amnesty Officer who worked for Gideon, hit the town so she can show Pershing the sights of Coruscant. The two talk about the doc’s work on cloning and how the New Republic is likely not interested, so his research has ended.

The officer explains how a lot of people want to help the New Republic but the new government is not allowing it. Pershing is intrigued since he knows his cloning research can help others.

Later, Dr. Pershing is interviewed by a droid that looks to be procedural for the Amnesty program, since the questions are about if he feels hostile towards his job or the New Republic. After he gives all his answers, Pershing asks if he can continue his research recreationally, to which the droid denies since cloning goes against the Coruscant Accords.

Privately aside, Dr. Pershing and his friendly Amnesty Officer talk about the importance of his research and how they need certain things for it to get going. These items are rare or hard to find but Pershing looks to be more and more convinced to continue his research as time goes on.

At work again, Pershing finds out the data he is archiving is intended to be destroyed, even though it is all valuable technology. His superior explains that since it is Imperial, and since there is so much bureaucracy and red tape involved, Pershing is better off just doing what is asked of him.

Following another Amnesty interview, Pershing reflects on how his job and government are making him upset, which is all he needs to go through with the plan to continue his cloning research. Pershing and the officer sneak onto a transport they are unauthorized to be on, so they can find a mobile lab for the research.

On the train, Pershing discovers this officer takes things from the Imperial junkyard, since it is not being used there anyway. This is the same place she got the yellow biscuits for him.

Then to avoid the ticket droids, the doctor and officer not-so-subtly sneak down the train cars until they are at the end and have to jump off as the train slows down. They arrive at the junkyard filled with Imperial Star Destroyers.

The Amnesty Officer hotwires the door to get in. As they make their way to the lab, the two former Imperial crewmembers finally introduce themselves.

Dr. Penn Pershing formerly meets Communications Officer Elia Kane. After finally reaching the lab, Pershing gathers plenty of supplies while Elia Kane stands lookout.

As they are leaving, there are footsteps heard so they make a run for it. They do not make it far before the two are caught by officers of the New Republic.

Elia Kane stands in front of Pershing to reveal she is the one who double-crossed him and turned him in. At the lab he is taken to, Pershing is strapped down for an Imperial mind flayer, that is used by the New Republic at a low dose to soothe the transition for Amnesty officers.

Elia Kane watches on and, after everyone else leaves, turns up the dosage of the machine to Empire levels of a mind flayer, showing her true evil colors.

With the TIE Bombers nowhere in sight, Din Djarin and Bo-Katan arrive at the covert location of the Mandalorians. After convincing Paz Vizsla to meet with The Armorer by showing her the canister from the Living Waters, she grants redemption to Din Djarin.

Since she also bathed in the Living Waters and has not removed her helmet since, Bo-Katan Kryze is also redeemed and welcomed into their group. Bo-Katan has a lot of thoughts about the whole thing, especially after seeing the Mythosaur last episode, but accepts her redemption nonetheless.
