We’ve got some sad news for Willow fans. According to Variety, the Disney Plus TV series based on the 1988 film of the same name, has been canceled after one season.

The show which starred Warwick Davis (Star Wars: Episode VI-Return of the Jedi, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone), returned as Willow Ufgood, joining an impressive cast consisting of Erin Kellyman, Joanne Whalley, Christian Slater, and Joonas Suotamo. The cancelation may seem surprising for some, considering it received an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The script for season 2 has been written, however, according to Deadline, “the news comes as Lucasfilm has been reassessing its film slate, taking time to identify the next movie in the Star Wars franchise.” It’s no secret that the Star Wars series on the streaming platform have been performing extremely well, unlike the slew of recent films.

But with the lack of theatrical releases, it may be time for that epic opening crawl to return to the big screen! The question remains, what story, out of the dozens upon dozens in Star Wars lore, will be chosen as the next film?

With Willow canceled, what comes next for Disney and Lucasfilm?

It seems as though Disney and Lucasfilm want to focus more of their efforts and money into continually growing the Star Wars universe. But does that mean that other projects, that could be equally as interesting, but perhaps riskier, will be forgotten?

Would you have rather seen Willow season 2 or more Star Wars content? What types of content would you prefer Disney spend their time and money on?

You can watch both Willow season 1 and the film on Disney Plus.
