Luther: The Fallen Sun review – A worthy addition to the series

Luther: The Fallen Sun is a feature-length continuation of the BBC crime drama Luther. The film sees the return of actor Idris Elba in his role as Detective Chief Inspector John Luther, a renegade police officer investigating London’s grisliest homicides.

Luther finds himself in prison at the start of the film, after his latest adversary, a tech billionaire played by Andy Serkis, leaks a dossier to the media that incriminates him in a litany of rule-bending offenses. Despite being stuck behind bars, Luther continues to hunt for clues as to Serkis’ next atrocity exhibition.

He must do this while being hunted by his former colleagues on the police force. The film is set in a gloomy, gothic version of London, in which every darkened alleyway and unguarded suburban milieu is stalked by members of a rogues’ gallery twisted enough to make Batman blink.

The movie premiered on Netflix on March 10.
