It’s been a pretty good time to be a Star Wars fan recently. With three new movies announced, new series coming to Disney+ and the announcements that fan-favorite characters would be appearing in live-action for the first time, there’s been plenty for Star Wars fans to be excited about, (unless you are a fan of The Bad Batch).

However, among the list of announcements that were made at Star Wars Celebration earlier this month, we also learned that the series, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, would be coming back for a third and final season.

The Bad Batch: Spinning off from The Clone Wars

The Bad Batch, first aired in 2021, and was a sequel series to the critically acclaimed animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The show follows “the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch (first introduced in The Clone Wars) as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War.”

These clones were not affected by Order 66 in the way that the rest of the clones were, and their unique position has made them outlaws in the early days of the new Galactic Empire. The show has received favorable reviews across the first two seasons, so it’s no surprise that a third season was ordered.

However, it was also announced that the third season would be the final season of the series, bringing the story to a close.

Dave Filoni’s other Star Wars projects

While fans who are excited about the third season of the series, might be disappointed to learn it will also be the last, it’s not necessarily surprising that the show is coming to a close. Series creator Dave Filoni will be heavily involved in the upcoming Ahsoka series.

Considering he’s also involved in The Mandalorian series, it’s easy to see that his focus might be getting stretched from having to expand the Star Wars universe in so many different directions. So perhaps it is best for the show to be able to conclude on its own merits, having told the story that the creators set out to tell.

The final season of The Bad Batch has been slated to be released some time in 2024. No specific release date has been provided yet.

We’d like to assume that given the past two seasons both had 16 episodes, it’s probably not too much of a leap to suspect that this final season will have 16 episodes as well.
