Another legend has been lost. With a heavy heart, we must say goodbye to one of the legendary actresses of ABC’s General Hospital, Jacklyn Zeman.

Jackie portrayed Bobbie Spencer in 1977, directly after her role in One Life to Live as Lana McClain. From there she carried on the role of Bobbie Spencer as a regular until 2010.

Spencer was a recurring role up until her sad passing, which has shaken the soap opera world, to put it mildly. Jackie Zeman has won three Daytime Emmy awards in her lustrous career in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and one Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Jackie also starred in a lead role on The Bay as Sofia Madison, where she was nominated a Daytime Emmy several times. If there’s one thing to remember about this vivacious and heartwarming actress, it’s that she’s far great than outstanding.

Jacklyn Zeman’s impact on General Hospital

She was half a part of one of General Hospital’s best ships with Tony Jones. Though the two had moved on from each other after marriage, their love for each other never diminished.

Somewhere up there, Tony and Bobbie are holding BJ looking down on everyone they love, serving as their guiding light. One of the most recognizable soap opera veterans of our time, her presence in Port Charles will never be forgotten.

Her loving family confirmed that after a short battle with cancer, Jackie passed away at the age of 70. We have gotten to witness her greatness for 45 years of television as the incomparable Bobbie Spencer.

The storyline of her daughter, BJ Jones’ death will forever go down as one of General Hospital’s best and most tragic storylines. One in which everyone involved should have won an Emmy.

Jackie was an icon and while it still feels so odd and heartbreaking to speak of her in the past tense, she will forever be missed, loved, and cherished by family, friends and fans. Our hearts go out to her family and all who loved her in this devastating time.

Bobbie Spencer is forever engrained in a very special place in our hearts, as is Jackie Zeman, who has been a pillar of Daytime Television. She is a beautiful soul that I had the pleasure of growing up watching.

The world needs more people like her in it, and what a grand one that would be.
