5 Things to know before watching Bridgerton season 3

Even though the Bridgerton spinoff, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story aired last month, fans and myself alike are desperately waiting for Bridgerton season 3. The historical romance and drama series, based on the Julia Quinn novels transported viewers into The Regency Era of England.

Throughout both seasons of the steamy series, romances both blossom and die in the most dramatic of ways. The main focus of the show is the distinguished Bridgerton family consisting of 8 children.

So far Daphne and Anthony Bridgerton have been successful in finding their true love. It has been no secret that season 3 would focus on the hopeful romance between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.

But their romance might be the most complicated and compelling one yet. Although a release date remains unknown, never mind the unconfirmed rumors, we wanted to share some key things that viewers should know before diving into a new season.

1. Eloise and Penelope’s fallout

Eloise Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington were truly the best of friends since the show began. Although polar opposites at times, the two bonded over their hefty discussions and lives, until Eloise’s attention became solely focused on discovering the identity of Lady Whistledown.

Lady Whistledown’s pamphlets were full of both gossip and truth, no matter how good or bad. Everyone in the ton devoured her words, even Queen Charlotte.

What Eloise didn’t know was that her best friend Penelope was Lady Whistledown. As Eloise’s investigations continued to grow, so did Penelope’s paranoia.

By the end of season 2, Eloise discovers the truth, and their friendship is destroyed. Even though Eloise knows the truth she does not reveal it to anyone, as far as we know.

Even though Penelope had been debating giving up writing as Lady Whistledown, she ultimately decides not to quit.

2. Penelope’s secret

Perhaps the one thing we fear will cause much conflict for Penelope and Colin is her secret. As far as we know, Eloise did not tell anyone Penelope is Lady Whistledown.

However, that could easily change once she notices her brother and ex-best friend are suddenly more than loyal friends. Colin is already angered by Lady Whistledown for having revealed the truth about Marina, a woman he was falling in love with regardless of her situation.

In fact, he still seems stuck on her even after she got married and had twins. As much as Colin is a kind and intelligent young man, his anger is quite venomous.

How will he react when he discovers Penelope’s secret? Will that destroy any chances they have at a happy ending?

3. Penelope and Colin’s friendship

Another barrier in the way of Penelope and Colin’s potential for a romantic relationship is their loyal friendship. Penelope has yet to declare her love to Colin and he has yet to notice it.

Even though, by this point, it is very obvious she has strong feelings for him outside that of friendship. But as intelligent as the young man is, he’s very dense (a common theme I’m noticing with the Bridgerton men).

He remains stuck on the past, still pining for Marina, and cannot see past his friendship with Penelope. So what will cause Colin to finally open his eyes and see Penelope as a potential wife?

What actions will Penelope perhaps resort to?

4. Queen Charlotte

As we mentioned, even Queen Charlotte enjoys the rather juicy and outrageous gossip of Lady Whistledown. So much so that she and Eloise tried to solve the mystery of her identity.

This only backfired when Eloise is accused of being Lady Whistledown, which Penelope successfully freed her from, even though it came at a cost. Although Queen Charlotte may have been defeated temporarily, there is no doubt she hasn’t given up.

This could spell disaster for Penelope as she’s continuing to write as Lady Whistledown while potentially achieving her happily ever after with Colin. There is so much speculation at this point, we’re nearly clawing at the walls for answers.

5. TV Rating

As with the previous seasons of Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the rating remains at TVMA. This is mostly due to sexual content.

Both Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte has had its fair share of passionate and throat clearing intimate scenes so we should expect the same of season 3.
