The fascinating journey

The Crowded Room underwent an intriguing development process for Apple TV+. Initially, Akiva Goldsman was set to write and produce the series based on Daniel Keyes’ nonfiction novel, The Minds of Billy Milligan.

However, a surprising twist occurred when it was revealed that the first season would draw inspiration from Goldsman’s own life, influenced by Keyes’ book. Kornél Mundruczó and Suzanne Heathcote were hired as the director and executive producer, respectively.

Principal photography for The Crowded Room commenced on March 31, 2022, in the vibrant backdrop of New York City. The production team captured scenes at various notable locations, including the renowned NBC Studios situated in the iconic 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

After an extensive filming period, the shooting concluded on September 28, 2022, marking the end of the production phase for the series.
