Secret Invasion season 1, episode 1 recap
The episode starts in Moscow, where Agent Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) is approached by Agent Prescod, who believes the Skrulls are behind global terrorist attacks. Prescod presents evidence, but he suspects Ross is a Skrull, leading to a deadly chase.
Ross escapes but falls to his death, revealing his true Skrull nature in a shocking twist. Meanwhile, Nick Fury returns from space, having worked with the Skrulls after Avengers: Endgame.
He teams up with Agent Maria Hill to investigate the Skrull threat and a rebellious group led by Gravik. Hill informs Fury that the Skrulls may be hiding in an abandoned Russian base, planning to start a war between America and Russia using a massive bomb.
Tensions rise as Fury learns about a stolen weapons cache, and the race to prevent disaster intensifies. In another storyline, President Ritson is told about Fury leaving the S.A.B.E.R project by Rhodes, also known as War Machine.
This suggests that Fury’s involvement with the Skrulls could disrupt the balance of power on Earth. The Skrull infiltration becomes clearer as G’iah, Talos’ daughter, stays in a secret Skrull refuge called the “New Skrullos.”
The compound becomes a hub for their covert operations, where they kidnap unsuspecting humans and use their bodies as disguises. As tensions rise, Fury plants a hidden camera in Sonya Falsworth’s office, a high-ranking MI6 agent, to gather information.
He overhears discussions about Vasily Poprishchin, a suspected bomb maker. Fury takes matters into his own hands and arranges a meeting with Vasily, leading to a confrontation that exposes Vasily as a Skrull.
Talos fights Vasily but refuses Fury’s help, ultimately shooting the Skrull. Meanwhile, Hill pursues G’iah, who has the bomb, but finds herself overpowered.
As Talos catches up with his daughter, a heartbreaking revelation unfolds: G’iah’s mother was murdered by Gravik. G’iah struggles with this information but eventually gives the bomb to Pagon, not revealing who tried to stop her.
With three planned explosions approaching, the situation becomes critical. On the day of the bombings, Fury, Talos, and Hill join forces to stop the disaster.
Fury confronts Gravik, while the others chase after the remaining bombers. Shockingly, they discover that the bombs were replaced with decoys cleverly disguised by the Skrulls.
Gravik detonates the explosives, causing devastating loss of life. In a surprising twist, Hill falls victim to Gravik’s ruthlessness, leaving Fury and Talos in a dire situation.
