The full list of the 2023 Emmy Awards nominations has been released and there has been a very mixed reception. Thankfully, Netflix’s Bridgerton spinoff, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, was nominated but was it also snubbed?

Be honest, is it fair that under the Lead Actor in a Drama Series category that three of the 6 nominees are from the same television show? Or worse yet, is it fair that under Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category that all 8 nominees are from only TWO television shows?

Two?! So then imagine our surprise when we see Queen Charlotte receiving Emmy nominations, three in fact, but not for the superb acting or writing. No, instead for the categories you’d expect and see for period pieces/historical fiction shows over and over and over again.

Which Emmy nominations did Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story receive?

The three Emmy nominations Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story received were for:

  • Outstanding Period Costumes
  • Outstanding Period Hairstyling
  • Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance category for Julie Andrews

Don’t get us wrong, we are extremely happy to see Queen Charlotte receive any award nominations, however, it continues to be the same story with the Emmys. They continually ignore the acting talents, that often go above and beyond, in favor of others, who deserve the nominations as well, but are already recognizable names.

Both India Ria Amarteifio (Queen Charlotte) and Corey Mylchreest (King George), shined bright and convinced viewers everywhere of the complicated yet romantic relationship between the King and Queen of England. Why are television award shows so afraid of nominating period dramas for anything other than the obvious categories.

Yes, the costumes look breathtaking. Yes, so do the wigs, makeup etc.

But when will these period dramas be taken seriously and stand out amongst the ones who always conquer the more coveted award categories? All the same, let us know what you think.

We wish all the nominees the best of luck! You can watch Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story on Netflix.
