Great news Walking Dead fans! The AMC smash hit, The Walking Dead: Dead City, has officially been renewed for season 2!

It seems Negan and Maggie’s story is far from over, (as we expected) as the duo will be returning. Dead City’s season 1 finale will air Sunday, July 23 on AMC (unless you have AMC+, in which case it has already aired), and undoubtedly determine where the story will go from here.

Thus far Negan and Maggie have survived a ravaged New York City filled with walkers, as they dodge New Babylon Marshal Perlie Armstrong, in the hopes of rescuing Hershel from The Croat. Their complicated past hasn’t hindered the spinoff, at least not completely, as they find new ways to support, connect and help each other through their trials and tribulations.

However, any progress they might have made, seems to have only been one sided, as Maggie never seemed to want to be around Negan any longer than need be. It seems while she’s stuck in this endless limbo of the past, Negan has long since moved on.

How will The Walking Dead: Dead City season 1 conclude?

However, he faces his own problems of being a wanted man for killing marshals in revenge for their horrendous acts against his wife. Will that plot point wrap up in the season finale?

Maybe. Will the duo at least find and rescue Hershel?

Perhaps. For five episodes the spinoff has felt like a story all on its own in The Walking Dead Universe.

Outside of Glenn’s death and a minor flashback to The Sanctuary, no other references to The Walking Dead had been made. This has proven to be the show’s strongest aspect as audiences can spend more time with specific characters.

In turn these specific characters, including Maggie and Negan, can grow and evolve even further and not feel like rushed, thrown in, last minute after thoughts. We look forward to the season 1 finale, and when filming for season 2 can begin.

That is of course after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike is over, which we hope will be soon but only after both group’s needs are met.
