The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon trailer revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con
By Shay McBryde
The Walking Dead universe may have lacked any actors and panels at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, but one thing Hall H did not lack was an audience. Fans were there in full support to see the upcoming promotion for the future spinoffs of The Walking Dead, including The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
And nobody was left disappointed. The Daryl Dixon spinoff was certainly the headliner, and we got a big taste of what is to come in France for star Norman Reedus.
In the trailer we’re shown an 11-year-old named Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi), who is said to lead the revival of humanity. And for some unknown reason, Daryl Dixon is their messenger and best option to get Laurent to a location to lead such a prophecy.
It gives off a very The Last of Us type vibe. Though I’m sure there will be differences between the two, it does leave many fans questioning why is The Walking Dead taking another page from the hit HBO series again?
What we know so far about The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon
Laurent “grew up in an abbey protected by nuns, shielded from the violence of the outside world.” The trailer shows Laurent imitating a lot of Daryl’s actions.
So, it seems Daryl’s new purpose will be teaching this child the tools of survival, which is nothing new for the archer. We have seen that through Henry and with Judith in the main show of the series.
Isabelle (Clémence Poésy) is a smart, headstrong nun capable of protecting herself and the people she loves. She escaped the countryside when the “hungry ones” (the French term for walkers) arrived.
There is not a lot of speaking through much of the trailer but the music throughout gives it a majestical vibe. We witness Daryl being washed up on shore on the coast of France and making his way through the ruins of one of the most beautiful places in the world.
When Isabelle reveals to Daryl that he has been tasked to deliver Laurent to a destination because he is the revival of humanity, he has a very peculiar look on his face, as if this woman has lost all her marbles. Regardless, this is his best opportunity to get back to the people he loves.
Daryl Dixon knows he’s going to have to accept this mission to stay alive. He wants to get home and in doing this he opens the path to that journey.
Though his ride back to the states will have to be put on hold for the moment, as the location of France has been very desirable so far. For AMC+ subscribers you have the opportunity now to watch the first 10 minutes of episode 1 of TWD: Daryl Dixon.
Fans at SDCC were treated to the first 20 minutes of the episode. We have not seen the last of Daryl Dixon yet!
The series will premiere on September 10.
