Ahsoka season 1, episode 1 recap: “Master and Apprentice”

While trying to learn more about Admiral Thrawn, Ahsoka Tano reunites with old friends and makes new enemies in this first episode of Ahsoka season 1.

Ahsoka season 1, episode 1 recap: Prison Break

While a New Republic vessel is transporting Morgan Elsbeth, last seen being captured by the titular character, they are hailed by an old Jedi clearance code. The ship’s captain greets them but it is all a ruse as Baylan Skoll and his apprentice Shin Hati ambush the naval ship.

With their force powers and lightsabers, the two can relatively quickly free Elsbeth. As they are leaving, Lady Morgan makes her intentions clear to go after Ahsoka Tano since she is looking for “the map” and knows something about Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Ahsoka is then seen retrieving the map of her desires and fends off a platoon of droids along the way. When she has them beaten, however, the hunks of metal initiate a self-destruct protocol which leads to Ahsoka needing a hasty escape.

She is successful with the aid of her lightsaber-crafting droid, Huyang, who is wired for the protocols of the High Republic and the Jedi Council. Tano is then informed of her prisoner’s escape and is greeted by her old friend Hera Syndulla.

The former padawan does not recognize the force wielders who helped Morgan Elsbeth escape but she does share her findings on the map. With this map and finding Thrawn, it also means they could find their friend Ezra Bridger who went missing, along with the wicked Grand Admiral.

Hera suggests Ahsoka enlist the help of someone else they haven’t talked to in a while, Sabine Wren.

Ahsoka season 1, episode 1 recap: Remembering Ezra Bridger

Audiences meet Sabine while she is avoiding responsibilities at the unveiling of the monument that recognizes the sacrifice Ezra made. Back at home, Sabine plays a video message from Ezra that explains he is about to do something that a Jedi would do, since the Jedi put the mission ahead of themselves.

Baylan, Shin, and Lady Morgan regroup at the latter’s former home, which is now in ruins. Morgan senses that Tano has the map and tells Baylan to send his apprentice to Lothal.

Shin Hati is skeptical of this since she found out Morgan Elsbeth is a Nightsister and a witch but goes along happily when Skoll tells her Lothal is where Sabine and Ahsoka are. On Ahsoka’s ship, she and Sabine reminisce about their pasts and the plans to find Ezra.

Sabine asks to take the map and think somewhere more comfortable, but Ahsoka puts too much worth in the map to let it off her ship/home. Aside Huyang informs Ahsoka that he has looked into the sabers wielded by their adversaries and recognizes Baylan Skoll’s handy work.

Since he has not been seen since the end of the Clone Wars, Ahsoka assumes this is a master and apprentice situation. Tano goes to tell Sabine but she and the map are gone.

Ahsoka season 1, episode 1 recap: Turning the gears

Returning to her home, Sabine compares the map with her notes and findings but is being tailed by Shin Hati while she does it. On her ship, Ahsoka talks with Hera about what happened, and her friend helps Ahsoka realize she needs to stop walking away when things get tough.

This is something she did with Anakin and the Jedi Council along with Sabine.

Sabine keeps trying to think of how to unlock the map before she is able to eventually complete this task. Right as this happens, however, droids and Shin Hati attack Ahsoka’s former apprentice.

She is able to call for Huyang and grab her lightsaber before confronting Hati. The two duel while Ahsoka and Huyang race to help their friend.

Right before they arrive, however, Shin Hati slices through Sabine’s torso, leaves her lying there, and flees with the map.
