Po and the group arrive to England in the hopes of figuring out how to destroy the Tianshang weapons. In Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight season 3 episode 4, they need to learn more about Wandering Blade’s brother’s last mission, but do they find the answers they seek?

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight season 3, episode 4 recap – The escape

Upon reaching England, Wandering Blade, Po, Akna, and Rukmini are moved into separate prisoner carts with Wandering Blade placed with Sir Drake. She wants to use the opportunity to the group’s advantage, but Po has ideas of his own.

Po manages to defeat a guard protecting his cart, which is the last one in the group. Using the keys, he frees Akna and Rukmini.

However, upon reaching Wandering Blade, he interrupts a key moment in her plan. She had been trying to convince Sir Drake into revealing what Alfie’s last mission was.

Naturally Po ruins the moment, but all of them manage to escape the knights. Angered Po interfered when she asked him not to, Wandering Blade ponders a new plan: speaking to the Queen.

The group is in luck as the Queen is holding a chess tournament where invited chess players get to play with her. Wandering Blade wants to use this opportunity to speak to her about Alfie.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight season 3, episode 4 recap – Po and the Queen

Our heroes manage to enter the castle easily, however Sir Drake, Colin and the knights are searching for them. As they try to blend in, Po goes overboard by pretending to serve tea and cookies.

They get caught and a chaotic chase within the castle begins, wherein Po gets separated from his friends. He luckily finds himself in the presence of the Queen, a Corgi (nice touch), and pretends to be her next opponent.

Trouble is Po has no idea how to play chess. He makes a move and out of pure luck, the Queen wants to play chess the same way.

The two play like children, not caring about the rules of the game. Po uses this as his chance to get information.

The Queen shares that Alfie had asked to take a long vacation but didn’t say where he was going. He was gone for a while and was killed shortly after returning.

After obtaining this information, Po and the Queen can hear guards outside looking for him. Unphased by the situation the Queen allows Po to leave through a secret passage, having truly enjoyed playing the game with him.

Wandering Blade and her friends manage to escape Sir Drake by following Po through the secret passage in the walls. Safely outside the castle, Po shares the information he learned and together the group has a new objective.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight season 3, episode 4 recap – Mr. Ping’s punishment

Unfortunately for them, Mr. Ping messed up big time. As he and pirate Queen Forouzan enjoy the beauty of the sea from her boat, cuddling, he accidentally let’s slip about what items reside within the trunk.

He falls asleep, none the wiser. He wakes up finding that Forouzan changed her mind and will not be taking them to England.

Instead, she heads for her “home”, which looks like a deserted island. It appears as though she’s going to leave Mr. Ping there so she can take the trunk with the Tianshang weapons.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight season 3, episode 4 review

Although episode 4 continues the plot with our heroes, it continues to keep a steady and easy pace. I found the chess match between Po and the Queen to be heartwarming and adorable.

It’s fun to see royalty act carefree instead of being the usual unintelligent, cowardly or downright evil type trope. Having the Queen be a Corgi was just the icing on the cake, I loved it!

Although we’ve seen Po, multiple times on this show, where he wants to help but keeps messing up until he gets his moment to shine, it reminds audiences why he’s so likable to begin with. He has a big heart and wants to contribute outside of his kung fu skills.

He knows he’s not as smart, well-spoken, or clever as Wandering Blade, Akna or Rukmini, but the fact he wants to try is always admirable. I do hope their mission to find the answers they seek doesn’t drag out for too long.

Just as I hope the incident with pirate Queen Forouzan and Mr. Ping is resolved quickly. But judging by the way the season has been flowing, I don’t expect an abrupt halt to the story any time soon.
