The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Preview: Non-spoiler thoughts for “Paris Sera Toujours Paris”
By Shay McBryde
The third leg of the race for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon brings Daryl and his newly found group back to Paris. This episode is all about fatherhood, facing your demons, and home.
Fate has a way of making Isabelle come face to face with a world she buried a long time ago. But because of the deal she made with Daryl in return for a ticket back home, she must go head-to-head with a past she tried to forget.
Season 1 episode 3 was not the strongest or weakest episode in my opinion. It lies right in the middle as a great stepping stone to a much larger obstacle this group will have to face in order to get to the Nest.
If you did not get enough of Isabelle in the previous episode, she will take you on another emotional journey that led her to the path of righteousness. She comes across more connections in Paris that she didn’t know she had.
Which characters will return and appear in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 1 episode 3?
Adam Nagaitis is back as Quinn and let’s face it, has one of the coolest jobs anyone could in an apocalypse. He enjoys the power and luxuries that come with it.
This is Eriq Ebouaney’s debut episode as Fallou. Fallou is a fantastic ally for Isabelle and very much believes in the preservation of Paris, the destiny sought forth for young Laurent, and the gifts he holds.
But some allies aren’t quite as stable or reliable to help, yet it’s like a train wreck you can’t take your eyes off of. Incredible in nature and yet deceiving to the eyes.
“Paris Sera Toujours Paris” is written by Coline Abert and directed by Tim Southam. At the halfway point we see just how far Isabelle is willing to go to live up to her end of the bargain.
When the group keeps running into walls, Daryl’s will to go home is even stronger. At this point, he is ready to lie, cheat, steal, and do whatever he has to do to get back home.
After all, your home is where your heart is and Daryl left his behind a long time ago. There lies a pivotal moment in this section of the journey where Daryl is reminded of something that ties into the promise he made.
A wave of wistfulness crashes over him. He has an ardent desire to send word back home and an even stronger one to return to the place where he belongs.
You must pay attention to the subtexts throughout this arc. When you do, you will feel the nostalgia of what once made The Walking Dead so phenomenal in the first place, which is love and family.
In the background you will see more award-winning imagery. Though we know this a modern-day apocalypse, this spinoff has such an outdated style that doesn’t match the time period.
Regardless of it making any coherent sense as a spectator, it is hard to pry your eyes off of. One thing this series is, is evocative and mind-bending.
As well as an art and history lesson for us all. That is what sets TWD: Daryl Dixon apart from the rest.
The message of God, love, and family has been a recipe for success for AMC and TWD: Daryl Dixon.
“The group’s arrival in Paris brings help from old friends and attention from new foes.”
